I've always used firewire cables with no problems.

I'm using a 2408MkIII with a PCIe 424 in Windows 8.1 with no problems.

I have no problem using a Ricoh FW port with my 828Mk2.

No problems here with the latest MOTU drivers and Win8 Pro x64 with all updates.

Did have BSOD on cold boot until I updated my video card drivers.

Lenovo W500 and Win7 x64 works fine here.

I've just started using an 828mk2 firewire with Win7 x64 and all seems fine so far.
Been using 424pci with 2408mk3 and 1296 with win7 x64 for quite some time in my studio and rackmount stage PCs with no issues but now trying going back to a laptop for the live rig.

In my studio I have a 1296 and a 2408Mk3 connected to a PCI424 card with the sync provided by the PCI424.

Just use a firewire cable (it'll be alot cheaper).
