New MOTU Universal Drivers

Post by billruys »

Just downloaded the new MOTU universal drivers released a few days ago. It seems like a nice upgrade for us PCIe-424 users, as we get the scopes and tuner and also the newer CueMix FX interface. So far the driver has been very stable for me, but it's early days. The guitar tuner in particular seems very good.

I have the "legacy" Traveler and the driver is working flawlessly here for a few days now.

No visible or usable changes here. All is well and seems that it will continue to be.

Thanks Motu.

I seem to be getting better low latency performance with these new drivers (very handy for my on stage rig). :woohoo:
Studio: i7 4770K, 32Gb DDR3, W8.1 x64, PCIe424, 2408Mk3.
Stage: Lenovo W530 i7 3720QM, 16Gb DDR3, W7 x64.VS700R.

Yeah, 2nd that....thanks MOTU!

About that stage rig though...4.0 GHz from a factory 3.33 GHz processor is a little more than a modest overclock, especially if this is a laptop where heat can be even more of an issue.

I am sure that the oc is very stable or you wouldn't have it there, but if it were me, I'd lessen that somewhat along with the chance of a bsod happening while performing as well.

:)

Better to disable all unnecessary services....like everything not needed for live audio...(networking services, this that and the other thing.)

Check this out for excellent, trusted guidance....

Sensible advice but this is a rack mount of my own design with all unecessary services ruthlessly rooted out and banished to oblivion.

I chose the E8600 for this specific purpose as it is eminently overclockable even with modest cooling.

It passes Prime 95 for 24hrs+ peaking at 65 degrees and I've never seen a BSOD all the while I've been using it!

Don't try this at home folks but it works for me. All the usual caveats about testing thoroughly before using computers on stage apply of course but I've been using them for years now and would never go back.

Also a decent host for your VSTi's helps. I use Cantabile Performer but have used Brainspawn Forte equally succesfully in the past.
