Although DP has its good points, for a lesser spec of computer you are better sticking to logic, which is better optimised for older computers, and much more efficient in general.

Have tried out Logic Express, and DP's routing options and MIDI are much better IMO. However, Logic seems to be much more efficient in terms of it's processor use, especially when using reason as a rewire instrument (although you don't seem to be able to record the audio from reason exept when doing...

If you want a tape baked, you should contact FX copyroom in London, who have specialised ovens for the task and can salvage some real poor remains

The Mighty Mouse is a waste of time on DP 4.12 on OSX 10.3.9. It doesn'y respond to right clicking or scrolling, the only remote advantage is that you can trigger expose from the side buttons. It works well with lots of other stuff though. I think this is also the case with other versions of DP, alt...

Yes, the saffire is very good sounding, although i had two where the mic pres didn't work, so check before you buy if possible. Edirol FA101 is also very good, and I have lots of friends who swear by the M audio 410, which some perverts also choose to run pro tools on...

Now here's a thing, if you upgrade your mac is it possible to boot from an external drive? If I buy a new one it'll run tiger, and I've plenty of stuff running fine in panther that I'm quite happy with.

It certainly supports two 828MkIIs, I recorded a show running two of these for 20 channels onto the system drive (by accident). Worked ok but the 17" powerbook wasn't thrilled to be doing it (the tape counter refreshed every 3 seconds!) Don't know how youd get on with a PCI though..

Firewire interface problems with DP and powerbook

I posted about some problems I was having with a focusrite saffire and DP4.12. Changed to an Edirol FA101, and have the same problem: If I try and play back more than 6 tracks of audio, or try and record more than two tracks it sounds like a bowl of Rice Krispies (snap crackle and pop) This is on a ...

I bought my copy of DP from a nice shop called the Jolly Roger. The chap said the PDF manual would cost 20 pieces of eight. Perhaps frankie would like to call him? Oops, he doesn't have a phone... Believe it or not, there is a shop that advertises 'PC-CD roms' of this name not a million miles from m...

Mick is quite correct about other interfaces having the same problem. I tried an Edirol FA101 to compare and it had the same hassles! It would be good if manufacturers would put this information in their spec, as it would have been good to know this in advance. Kudos to focusrite for getting back to...

Brood, thats interesting you should mention the sample rate problem. Mine certainly didn't like the sample rate being changed, and the 192khz option wouldn't work. Focusrite recommend a 1.3ghz or thereabouts for the 192 option, but I was surprised the option wouldn't work at all on a G4 800. A few f...

My setup is: powerbook G4 800 Mhz 512Mb Lacie d2 160 Gb firewire Dp4.12 OSX 10.3.9 The focusrite seems to cause the processor to max out way more than the built in Audio, even when the control software is disabled. One instance of Altiverb 4 on a send causes the thing to go nuts (and the audio crack...
