Mighty Mouse (or other) and DP

Post by Spikey Horse »

I need a new mouse!

I've only ever used standard apple optical mice but this time I want onw which can scroll DP windows etc

Is the apple mighty mouse a good option for DP? ..... or is it overstyled, uncomfortable to use and overpriced?

Or any good non apple alternatives? (wired and optical is fine).

BTW I'm still on 10.3.9 but I *think* I still get limited features with the MM inc. scrolling.

Sorry to take up everyone's time with such a trivial question.

The Mighty Mouse is a waste of time on DP 4.12 on OSX 10.3.9. It doesn'y respond to right clicking or scrolling, the only remote advantage is that you can trigger expose from the side buttons. It works well with lots of other stuff though. I think this is also the case with other versions of DP, although I may be wrong..

You can get a fully customizable multi-button mouse for less than the mighty mouse. The mighty mouse forces you to use the right click and center click for Dashboard, Expose, Spotlight or the App Selector. The side buttons can only do Expose or Dashboard.

Waste of money because you can;t set it up to do what you REALLY need a multi-button mouse to do.

I would go for a kensington track ball.

well, i guess i'm the lone wolf who thinks the mighty mouse is awesome w/ performer (4.6). i love the ability to navigate with the small trackball, and the assignments for what r/l/ center clicking does is assignable. the only negative i would say is that the right click doesn't always make contact. i thought it might be just my mouse, but there are many other user comments saying the same thing. this means that every once in a while you have to click more than once on the right click to get it to work.

all-in-all, i love it. maybe some day i'll move to track ball, but i am so used to a mouse, this feels like the best of both worlds.

Or maybe not. I've tried trackball mice and I hate them. I much prefer optical mice. If you dig what you have, then you're good.

I think I'll just have to pop into micro anvika tomorrow and ask to audition all their mice and trackballs....

I like the Microsoft optical multibutton (mouse at home, trackball at studio). They feel great.

While I would usually be the last one to promote a Microsoft product, my wife and I both use a Trackball Explorer and it is an outstanding product! Even the software for it is very good! It is highly ergonomic, your hand rests in a very natural comfortable position, and is very accurate. I think it's way more comfortable than any other trackball out there. I typically use one or two fingers to move anywhere on the screens. The only caveat is that I'm not sure if it's still available. I hope you get a chance to try one. That said however, I've found that trackballs are not an easy thing for some people to get used to - you either love it or hate it. I and my friends who've switched to trackballs now find regular mice to be highly irritating to use. I hate them.

I used a trackball mouse for awhile.
I can see why some people like them, but I actually found them painful to
use after awhile.
I have a Logitech mouse that I'm extremly pleased with.
Perfectly fits my hand and has a multitude of perfectly placed buttons.
A 2018 Mac mini with 16 gb of ram
HUGE bunch o' AU instruments/fx...
A Metric Halo ULN8-3D…mmmmmmm

The Logitech MX1000 Laser Mouse is awesome. Wireless, ergonomic, a plethora of configurable buttons and it includes an OS X Sys Prefs Control Panel.

Definitely worth checking out. :) link

Woah!!!!! What the heck is that? Does it double as a massager when going to certain websites ? :P I have never seen that. I can't even figure how you hold or use it based on that pic.
