Re: A competitive DP

Hi, I bought Logic Studio a week ago and, too, have been thinking about what this package means, if anything, for the Mac DAW world and specifically for MOTU. I definitely fall into the "doubler" camp. I'll use both DP and Logic depending on which is the better tool for the job. I don't mi...

Here is a screen shot of a MIDI track in the upper pane and the Hyper Editor zoomed in to the velocity in the lower pane.

You can draw curves for velocity in the Hyper Editor. They are vertical just like they are in DP. How do you attach a picture to a post. I'll post a screenshot.

You can draw velocity shapes. They (along with continuous controllers, pithbend, etc.) can be easily edited in the Hyper Editor. Not surprisingly, the way Logic allocates varous tools, and tasks between windows is different from DP in many cases. This is one of those cases where you can do the same ...

Hi, More speculation: I think that there is/was a third party involved. The company that wrote the translator to import the various sample formats for MachFive v1 seems to be seriously behind schedule (if still working on it at all) on the next version. See the item "CDXTRACT 5 is (still) under...

Power soaks do not sound good for direct recording unless they include a speaker simulator. The Weber MASS does not have a speaker simulator and I don't think the THD HotPlate does either. Direct recording is not their main purpose. Their main use is for taming the volume of an amp when you want to ...

Hi, The wirewound pot won't work as a speaker simulator. The frequency and dynamic response of a speaker is complex. You could do the speaker simulation in software. You could use the speaker simulator from a plugin such as (my favorite) ReValver MkII http://www.alienconnections.com/products_revalve...

Re: Circuit design for direct amp recording

Hi, You'll want to make sure that the amp always has an 8 ohm or so load on it. You can damage a tube amp by running it without a proper load on it. If your wirewound resistor is somewhere between 4 and 16 ohms you should be fine. Have you considered using an attenuator that has a line out? Somethin...

Re: best guitar direct:software or stand alone multi fx?

Hi, Give ReValver MkII a try. The Mac version is in public beta now and should be released soon. I've been beta testing and using it for several months now and for my tastes it's the best sounding amp simulator I've tried - hardware or software. It can take a bit of experimenting to get a great soun...

I think there's an bug(?) with DP that it doesn't output ANY audio if outs 1&2 don't have any audio on them. Try moving one of your output pairs to outs 1&2.

Hi John, If you haven't checked it already take a look at System Preferences->Energy Saver->Options and make sure that Processor Performance is set to Highest. Brian Please excuse me. Another possibilty for the delay was mentioned a while ago on the motu-mac yahoo group. It might be UviX, the conversion utilty that ships with Mach Five. Here's the message from that group: http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/motu-mac/message/91743 And here's the news item it refers to: http://www.c...

Hi Jim,

The MIO 2882 has 8 mic preamps. Four of them have XLR connectors and 4 have TRS connectors. They are otherwise identical. I have one and love it.
