Those make sense, guys, and I appreciate the help. I did every single one of your tips mentioned above. After fiddling with cables and swapping firewire ports between my mixer and hard drive, I'm almost certain that the firewire port on the front panel of my G5 is whacked out. It seems to have a cra...

Virtual Guitarist or alternative

Hey guys.

I scoped out Steinberg's Virtual Guitarist 2 info, and it looks like something I could use. Are there any alternatives, though? I'd like to see what else is out there, but it has to at least be as cheap or cheaper than VG2's $250 price tag.

Thanks!
Derek

Thanks for the awesome help. I tried EVERY single combo - MultiMix 1 Mono, MultiMix 2 Mono, MultiMix 1-2 Stereo, Bus 1, Bus 2, Built in Audio... nothing played her voice waveform unless I was in "Sound File" ... don't know what this is all about. Additionally, I think my mixer broke today....

See, I think I have all that stuff set up properly, but how can I know for sure? I'm pretty sure it is... But now my MultiMix says "locked" - I've installed new drivers and everything and it's just not working. Every step forward is a few steps back... I might try a PC MIDI program until I...

Ugh... I've read the manual and my DP book I bought, and I still can't figure this one out: We've recorded a song, MIDI from her keyboard and my drums in separate MIDI tracks, and one audio track from her microphone. On playback, we hear the keys and drums, but no voice. We can see the waveform but ...

^ Hah! Thanks, that saved me a ton of searching around... :p I've got it doing what I want, now, and I read almost all of Tweak's stuff. I printed about 75 pages for reference, too. Thanks for all the help. Next will be tracking some MIDI and voice, and I'll come back here if I have troubles subbing...

I already glanced at all of those links, but I'll try to read more in depth tomorrow morning. I think I understand the basic concept, now, but I now just need to find out how to accomplish what I want with the gear that I have, and perhaps buy whatever gear I am missing. I don't know the optimal way...

I'm going to list my equipment and my plans, just in case it helps: My plans are to 1) track the keyboard and drums, 2) fix mess-ups, 3) quantize, 4) substitute voices, 5) rinse, lather, and repeat til I have the song the way I want. 6) Record vocals. 7) Mix, Master, Burn. My equipment consists of: ...

Ok, that's what I was wondering based on the other replies. This is what I thought was happening: XP-50 > E-MU > DP5 > (computer interprets MIDI into audio) > Receiver > Speakers I saw the levels in DP bouncing while I was playing, so I assumed there was some audio interpretation somewhere. Instead,...

I play my XP-50 and hear nothing. It is not hooked up to the receiver. I don't know how MIDI works, but I assume that if DP sees the module in MIDI Monitor when I play and shows the hits in the levels meter, that somehow it should be outputting to my speakers through the Mac's speaker out. All I nee...

Indeed. I am pretty sure that is set up properly. The only thing that might not be correct is that I called my TD-6 a TD-7, because that was all that was available in the Roland drop-down.

Ok, here is how I currently have this set up: -- TD-6 and XP-50 connected through MIDI to E-MU (no audio connections, just MIDI) E-MU connected through USB to Mac Mac audio out to receiver Receiver to speakers -- That said, I have an Alesis 8 Channel Firewire mixer I haven't figured out where to put...
