Virtual Guitarist or alternative
Hey guys.
I scoped out Steinberg's Virtual Guitarist 2 info, and it looks like something I could use. Are there any alternatives, though? I'd like to see what else is out there, but it has to at least be as cheap or cheaper than VG2's $250 price tag.
Thanks!
Derek

I'm using Chris Hein Guitars after checking out all of the available options, and am very happy with its expressivity and detail. Due to the falling dollar, its price might have now gone out of your range.
CHG also includes mandolin and banjo, which were a big selling point for me alongside the best-in-class jazz guitar. If your needs are more acoustic guitar oriented and you also need 12-strinbgs, Martins, etc., you might be better off with a different solution (such as the gigantic library from that company that made VI .ONE -- this is from memory and I haven't the time right now to look it up).

I use RealGuitar and RealStrat (both from Musiclab)
Probably my favorite VI's. Very high fun factor. Plug in Amplitube and tweak a bit, and you get some fairly convincing background/rhythm guitar tracks
Both have a pattern manager with hundreds of strumming patterns, ranging from 4/4, 3/4 etc to some really offbeat strums.

Oh yeah, there's a new one called Plectrum which also covers other picked/plucked stringed instruments, but it's Windows-only so far. It's gotten some very good reviews this month. I haven't had time to read about it in detail, listen to audio demos, etc. Looks like a nice interface though.

It depends on what you want to do. VG 2 is great for comping guitars. You have lots of rhythms and phrases, and you can even manipulate those to change them. You can modify the patterns into custom ones.
BUT, if you need melodic guitars, then you will be disappointed with VG 2.
VSL has a nice concert accoustic guitar, and also the overdrive one(electric guitar). I have them both, and are very useable. But you have to invest a lot of time to make them sound good by changing articulations, changing samples, etc.
