amp, firewire, mixer configuration

It's been quite some time since I've put my studio together (I moved) and I'm having trouble remembering the configuration between my amp - driving passive monitors - and 828. Do I have to run it through a mixer or can I route it directly into the 828? I've been trying the direct route and not getti...

active and passive speaker hook up

I've got a pair of active M-audio (bx5a) and a pair of passive Tannoys, and I'd like to have both connected to my 828, but of course, need to control each pair independently. Currently, I have my 828 outputs split to my headphone amp and to the active speakers. I used to use a monster cable speaker ...

installing plugins

I'm probably the only one here still using DP3 on OS9, so I'm hoping someone will remember this ancient program and beable to help me out. I'm having problems getting DP to recognize new vst plugins. I've placed them in the plugin folder, restarted, but they don't show up in my list. Yes, I have vst...

clean desktop?

A few months ago I had trouble with my G4 when I switched from OS9 to OSX as my startup disk, and I had to have it serviced. The 'computer guy' said I should clean up my desktop regularily because info gets moved around? Is this like doing a defrag or something? How do I do this? (I've looked for th...

monitoring soundbites on import

I'm still using DP3. I can't figure out why I can't preview wav files in the import soundbites window - and yes, I clicked the 'audition' button. I used to be able to do this...perhaps I turned something off? Any suggestions?
Thanks.

I think if I could save the files as audio it would solve the problem, but the wav files remain hidden unless I switch to 'make data cd'. Any ideas?

export to wav - problems

I have exported individual tracks to wav files and burned to a cd. I then double checked the files by reimporting them from cd back to DP3, and everything is great. Problem is that when I get to the office - to my pc computer - the cd appears empty, even though I thought wav files were generic. Is t...

So I bus the effect to my guitar track...post or pre? Do I adjust the bus panning dials or simply pan the aux track hard left or right?

panning effects?

I read an article about mixing acoustic or electric guitars that suggests the following: pan guitar hard right (or left....), then add a short delay, and pan the delay to the left for a wide, full sounding guitar. Could someone tell me how to separate the effect from the track to accomplish this?

atmosphere & DP3

1) Just wondering if anyone is using Spectronics Atmosphere, and how it works in DP3... It looks like the right plugin for a project I'm working on, but wonder how it responds in DP...should I upgrade to DP4 at the same time? Any comments would be much appreciated. 2)I haven't been to the forum for ...

patch bay set up

I just bought my first patch bay...getting tired of crawling behind my racks... Can anyone direct me to a good article about patch bay set up guidelines? I guess I understand the concept of the pb, but I'm not sure where to start.

headphone & control room mixes

I'm using dp3 with motu828, and a samson headphone amp. How can I get two separate mixes? -one for the singer in the booth, and one for the control room?
