Re: Song Writers Rejoice...it's easy as Four Chords!

Pink's "Get the Party Started" has only one chord.

Re: Can Digital Distortion be caused by too many notes?

Fred-- "Freezing" and "printing" are basically synonymous. You must select a MIDI track and its corresponding VI track (Ivory, in your case), and then choose the "Freeze tracks" command. What this does is to render the MIDI information as audio, hence "printing&quo...

Re: In which order should I upgrade?

I was in the same situation a few months back; I'd bought DP6 but held on to it and continued using 5.13. Finally, I installed it, and it was nothing but trouble. Not only didn't it work properly, but it screwed up my ability to use 5.13 for several days, and I had to uninstall and reinstall several...

Re: If you want Sound On Sound to continue "DP Notes"

And done! Dear Paul: I have been a big fan of SOS since I began receiving it about a year ago. But I have been a great fan of MOTU's Digital Performer for much longer, and it saddens me to learn that you are dropping the DP column from your otherwise excellent music magazine. I began using Performer...

It's a Dual Processor G5 2.0, with 4 gigs of RAM, running OS 10.4.11.

work priority

Hmmm. I did a bit of DP6 manual reading the other day, and though I haven't yet installed the new version (I'm happily running 5.13), I did decide to apply one of the manual's general suggestions: change work priority to "High." Since then, I've had considerable trouble getting any decent ...

freezing tracks from V-Racks

I'm not sure why I can't figure this out from the manual, but it has somehow eluded me. Ordinarily, when you want to freeze a track from a VI that you've initially recorded as MIDI, you select the MIDI track and the VI's track in the track window, for the time zone you want, and you get an audio tra...

How does the UNO-60 compare to DP's own Polysynth (which is evidently based on either a Juno 60 or 106)?

I experienced a kernel crash a week ago, and although learning how to perform a "safe reboot" got me up and running again, I was generally not a happy camper. Now, if it turns out that the problem was caused by the UAD card, and 4.7.1 fixes it, I am now happy and can return to camping. BTW...

Careful with those burnt sticks. You'll put an eye out!

And now, I'm reminded of that great (and too little-known) world-music hybrid band from the early '90s, Boiled In Lead. They were also better than getting poked in the eye by a stick, burnt or not.

Yes, the whole idea of having to rescan seems like a means of throwing the responsibility to the user when actually the product itself is suspect. (Nice avatar, Monk! Is that little guy available for sessions?) I'm curious to find out what you've been able to use the Convolver for in practical situa...

I've had no luck getting Remedy to show up on my system either. Based on what their website suggests, I may try to rescan my instrument folder, but I have a feeling it still may not work. Among the other freeware-type items I've downloaded, a couple others won't show up either (RubyTube, for example...

I don't use Bias Peak all that often, but I have found it to be a wonderful source of specific and often unusual effects and effects combinations, for instance, if you want to take a drum track and make it sound as if it's coming out of an old transistor radio. Same for special treatments on vocal t...
