If I may, I'd like to add a number to your workaround list:
3. One creates the clippings with the
source tracks included (whatever they are), so when you import the clipping, you don't need to worry about the type of track things belong to. Just drag and drop and play, and everything will look the exact same way like when they were created (the source)
Interesting. I've gotten "yelled at" vis a vis a warning window. I must explore this further to reap the benefits. Thanks for the extra tip, FM.

While we are at it, clippings should also preserve the folder structures. As of now, you just get the tracks and contents, but they forget/ignore the folder structures (if they were created like that).
Now, clippings-preserved folder structures would be great since the Folder feature was created long after the clippings feature was.
It's just that I work on a huge project, leave the country for three weeks and come back to it only to sit and stare at the screen going... "Huh? What was I thinking?"... or "What was I drinking????"
Here's another possible hobbidiot workaround:
4. Open the source project. Create a NEW folder with the desired track structure inside of it. Copy the appropriate data into the appropriate tracks (actually duplicating that data in the source project). Use that track folder group (the copy) for the Clipping. Should you ever forget what was what, there'd be no digging through notes to find track order or content. Just open the old project, look at what was "what", then move ahead with the new project and new clipping.
Remember: I used the term hobbitiot!! If given a choice, I will choose what's faster and more reliable every time over anything else.
