audio MIDI setup in Leopard crashes

Post by scooter »

A.M.S. comes up fine on my dual core intel mac OS 10.5.5. It shows my MTP AV.
I can add a MIDI device but if I try to edit it, AMS crashes. I trashed its preference. Loaded the driver 1.37 for my MTP AV. Got rid of all other MIDI drivers. Any other ideas??

thanks,

Did you repair permissions after installing driver?

If not I try it and see if it helps.

Try making a new AMS from scratch.

It's been well over a year since I've attempted this.
I can't get my AMS to work In OS 10.5.6. The screen comes up fine with my 2 microlites and the MTP AV all showing up fine.
As soon as I try to add or edit a MIDI device in any way, it crashes.
I've installed MOTU USB OSX Install v.1.3.7, I took out all MIDI drivers from my Library/Audio/ MIDI Drivers except for the Motu MIDI Driver.plugin

The only thing I can think of is uninstalling USB OSX 1.3.7 and reinstalling, but there is no uninstall option on the install.
Does any one know how best to do that? I can at least start there.

thanks,

I had that happen in 10.5.5 on my Mac Pro. I tried everything I could think of with no success. Finally a re-install of OS X solved the problem. I never did figure out what was corrupted.

Wow! Thanks Phil. I guess if worse comes to worse I could go there but I really hope I don't have to.

I'm working on it. I'll definitely figure it out at some point and I'll report back when I do.

I've been working on the same problem and so far I have found that on my system, PT8 installs some Digi MIDI drivers that are wreckin havoc with AMS. When I delete them, and re-install the Motu usb driver, everything returns to (?)normal(?), but PT8 refuses to start up. Then, when I re-install the PT audio, and MIDI drivers :( I can't get DP6.01 to run. I am really :?: and  ed. Of course since I've been working on it for about 16 hrs I'm going  crazy!!!!!! Need help and fast!!!! Lucky my next projects don't depend on MIDI so I'm safe for a while. As a matter of fact I think I'll try to disconnect my MIDI express and see what happens. I had no problems on my MBP, and Mbox mini. The only thing I can guess is that when I tested it, there was no MIDI interface connected. I'm going to test it again, and make sure.

Oh well, no matter what I do, I can't get DP6, and PT8 to work together on my Macpro. Both programs take forever to start up. They do start up, but only after saying 'not responding' in the force quit window. But if you wait, they will open up. It is strange because the same set up on my macbook pro opens up right away. AMS opens right away on MBP, but stalls on my Macpro. It's 6 a.m. and I am burnt. I hope somebody can find a solution.

Check console...
There are probably some trace of what's going on there.

The only console I can almost understand is an old analog rec console. When I tried the console, terminal, etc..... I was and still am clueless  But I did find out that the digi drivers and the Motu usb drivers are conflicting. I remembered that my wife's G5 had PT7 only. So I installed DP6 on it. Everything worked flawlessly until I installed the usb drivers. Everything went haywire! When I trashed the motu driver, back to normal. Motu will run on the digidesign drivers, but DD isn't playing fair. This is a big issue because I use Express XT, and DTP for my DP6- Tascam sync. I hope it hasn't come to the point of having to use a separate OS for each program. I really enjoyed(at least til now) the freedom of being able to switch between the two without having to re-start like OS9........
I'm going to re-install DP5 and PT7 on my macpro since I have(HAD) a free weekend. Everything was great until I started using PT8 and DP6 together..... let's see if Utopia still exists...... hope I ain't gotta install OSX again.....

Well, I'm doing the dreaded archive and install right now, so I'll let you know what happens.

The install and archive did not fix the problem.

It took a full re-install of Leopard to fix the problem. It's fine now and only God knows what was going on with my AMS.
