Quick survey: How do you power your Traveller?

Post by Ebaange »

Let's say you have a Traveller connected to your desktop.
You don't take it on remotes, you just use it in that one location (home or whatever).

Do you just use BUS power or do you use the wart?

Thanks

Bus always, I've never had a single problem, but I have heard that some Firewire ports do not provide enough juice to adequately power the Traveler. I have enough warts. Why add another?

Any specific reason for that?

I always use the wall-wart. I figure it will provide more stable power than the bus power (I don't ever plug anything else into the firewire loop-through port anyway). I often bus-power portable firewire drives, but they are plugged into my cardbus adapter (which also has a power supply attached).

The downside of all this stuff (20" external monitor, keyboard, trackball, USB hub, etc.) attached to the Powerbook is that it makes it a hassle to move it, so it tends to just be an underpowered desktop computer. Probably will replace it later this year with an Intel imac, but I'm kind of waiting for the next generation to come out before upgrading.

Funny, I don't even recall where my AC adaptor for the Traveler is.
I keep relying on my Firewire to power it.
Hmm, maybe i'll think twice on my next recording session...

I only use the bus. I've never even upacked the wart. The power in my house is dirty, and I think the electricity coming from the macbook is cleaner (even when the macbook is plugged in, but I haven't measured). Normally, I track with just the macbook battery as the only power source, so that I can remove the variable of the dirty wall power.

Wow. How much battery life do you get? That would last me about 10 minutes.

Always Bus, but I have recently started using a powered Firewire hub in my home setup.
