I'm having problems as well, though I've done it previously with no difficulty. Now everytime I try to open an OMF I get a message that there's 'audio data in a format that DP can't read'. I've tried several different audio file formats to no avail. I can get it to open if I use the export reference...

The mastering was actually done in New York, but thanks. I should point out that their website, http://www.audiosquadron.com is now up and running with a few MP3's available for download.

Thanks, Jim. In retrospect I find the mix lacking in width and a bit flat. I wasn't really happy with the mastering either. But considering how many elements we were working to fit in there (and the fact that we were pushing our dual 1.0 GHz G4 right to it's limits), it turned out pretty well. These...

AUDio SQUADron

This is a band I recorded last year and mixed in the winter. They've finally gotten the disc out and it was entirely recorded and mixed in DP 4.5/4.6. I don't know what was used for mastering. They're certainly a unique band, comprised of violin/mandolin, bass, drums, tabla/percussion, and trombone ...

You can't open a DP5 file in anything earlier than DP5, just as you couldn't open a DP4.6 file in DP 4.5. You have to do a 'save as' and choose an earlier version format to save it into in order to open it in previous versions. This is pretty standard for all software.

When I had this happening frequently it indeed proved to be a bad stick of RAM. Run Hardware Test (which may or may not catch a bad stick) or experiment with swapping out the sticks one at a time.

Whether you record on your existing PowerBook or upgrade to a MacBook, you need to get yourself an audio interface. Recording through the direct audio in will net you 16 bit files of very low quality. Unless you're planning to record rough one-mic-in-the-room tracks for your own use (which it doesn'...

My go to used to be our TLM-103, but recently I've been reaching for the KM-184. We have a pair, but the capsule on one is gone and costs as much as the mic to replace (!) so I'm down to one for now. At any rate, the 184 gives a very nice warm tone with a controlled high end. The 103 is more open, b...

Sometimes, if you have certain mono-to-stereo plugs in your fx clipping, it won't allow you to insert it on a mono track. In these case you have to break it into pieces, separating the mono-to-stereo plug out from the others.

What he said. Cuemix is your friend. You can configure each pair of outputs to send out specified incoming channels if people are recording together. To send out recorded tracks for overdubbing, use aux sends on your channels wired to the same output pairs.

Mic/Recorder For Live Interviews?

I have a friend who publishes a magazine and is looking to expand into podcasting. She currently uses and iPod with mic attachment, but is looking for something that will begin to approach broadcast quality, but still be portable and compact. Any reccommendations?

The overheads sound very clean, and we haven't noted any clipping whatsoever. I can't honestly say if we wound up needing to pad those mics or not. How close are the mics to the cymbals? We have been placing ours about 18-24" above the highest cymbal (if memory serves me correctly), although w...
