DP 4.6 CRASHES
My dp 4.6 freezes several times a day, and is causing a lot of trouble. Sometimes the program freezes, and sometimes I have the grey curtain covering the screen telling me to restart the machine.
I am using a G5 dual engine,with OS X.
I have tried to find any comands that cause the problem, but it all seem to be random. I am pretty desperate now, and is about to give my 192 interfaces(3) and DP 4.6 software to my worst enemy.
Help....

It can also happen if a processor's defective. Happened to me. In any case, yeah, it's probably hardware-related (if I had to guess).dweiss wrote:The grey curtain is called a Kernal panic, and it's usually hardware related and often the result of not quite up to spec ram. I would suggest removing all 3rd party ram and see if the problem goes away.

I had kernel panics when the internal hard drive cable went bad.
Another time it was because a stick of ram went bad.
Another time it was because the L2 cache on a processor went bad.
In other words, they were hardware issues.

GOOD LUCK troubleshooting. . . .

I've had kernel panics that were software related. Bottom line is, your problem is deeper than just DP. Time to get into some serious troubleshooting. I'm assuming you ran DiskWarrior. If not, do that first.
A few other things you can do:
- Remove all peripherals and cables except keyboard and monitor, see if that helps (if so, you could have a bad peripheral/cable/port) Swap keyboard/mouse/monitor, too. They too could be to blame.
- Start off of a fresh installed system with just DP installed and see if that helps (if so your original HD has directory issues and you need to reinstall.)
- As mentioned before, remove all but original RAM, and replace one at a time, see if that helps. (If so, you have some bad RAM.)
If nothing helps, you may indeed have a defective computer (CPU, port, etc.) and need hardware repairs. But I would tackle the easy stuff first. So far every kernel panic I've ever had was software related, so ultimately I was always able to fix myself.
Etc. Good Luck!

Could you give us some extra clues please so that we can help you trouble shoot your problemandersen wrote:My dp 4.6 freezes several times a day, and is causing a lot of trouble. Which exact version of OS X are you running ?
Are you using DP 4.6 or 4.6.1 ?
Did this just start to happen ?
Have you used Apple'sDiskUtility to repair permissions ?
