Re: MACH FIVE 3 IS LIVE!!!

I have been looking at Omnisphere for quite some time. How does MachFive 3 compare with Omnisphere? They are both about the same price. Which would be the most bang for the buck?
What are the basic differences between them?

Re: ZBox Needed?

Thanks Stanlux, That really clarifies things for me. I am not used to the world of electric guitar and live-mic inputs. I am just learning guitar. My usual setup is my Motif7 keyboard input (line inputs) directly into my MOTU 828 with no problems. My Roland GR-20 guitar synth has stereo line-out, wh...

ZBox Needed?

I own the original 828 Firewire audio interface, which has a mic/line switch on the front panel for channels 1 and 2. If I want to connect an electric guitar directly to channel 1, for instance, do I need something like the new ZBox to correct impedance; or, does the 828's mic/line already correct f...

It looked to me that you can run it from another MIDI sequencer (like DP?); but how to mix the audio output of 'M' along with DP, I am not sure. It has a very funky interface, and is not very intuitive. It takes a while to get it working. However, it can generate some really cool arpeggiations. The ...

Has anyone tried to use Cycling74's 'M' sequencer as an arpeggiator? http://www.cycling74.com/products/m grimepoch, It can generate all kinds of complex arpeggiations; I don't know if you had that in mind as a supplement to DP? I am surprised it is Mac OS X compatible. I has been a long time (many y...

Thanks again for the info. Is TCP/IP faster on FireWire than it is over gigabit ethernet? My idea of running external MIDI instruments also includes the idea of running the external computer headless; like using Remote Apple Desktop. For instance, MSI gui would show-up on the same computer as runnin...

Thanks for the feedback. It sounds a little complicated; and not a complete solution, yet. The built-in network MIDI driver; is that implemented with the 'Network' icon I see in Audio/MIDI Setup? Does it apply only to an etherNet network (wired or with Airport)? Or can FireWire now be used to carry ...

Mac mini as External MIDI Instrument?

When MSI stand-alone runs universal on an Intel Mac mini (G4 inventories are drying up), could it be used as an external MIDI instrument while using DP on another machine? What would really be cool would be if MOTU could make it work like a plug-in: settings and patches saved with the Digital Perfor...

Has anyone experienced a delay in triggering the DP5 synths from an external MIDI keyboard? I set DP5's buffer settings to 256 and it improves the latency; but some of the patches clip and gurgle with that low of buffer setting. Any suggestions? Also, if someone comes up with a great patch, could a ...

DP5 - Enhanced Input Monitoring

When I want to record a MIDI track from my Motif keyboard, I must now also create a stereo audio track, pick the input to monitor, and then click on the Record icon for that track in order to be able to actually hear or monitor my performance while listening to previously laid-down audio tracks. The...

I had the same problem. I got a response from MOTU Tech support (via e-mail). It solved my problem. Here was their response:

Try moving the MSI.dat file directly into Macintosh HD/Library/Application Support/MOTU/MSI. If there is an alias also called "MSI.dat" in that folder, delete it.

Yes. It also happened to me. I had to route the mix to a new stereo channel; then record the track. I then edited the track in an external editor (Soundtrack Pro) in order to save it to disk as stereo .aiff file. This is a round-about way to bounce to disk. I was going to contact MOTU tech support a...
