First thing I would ask is have you selected the 896 as the default device in the Preferences > Audio menu within Logic?

I got fed up with the levels appearing so low on my 896 and my monitors don't have volume controls so i bought a separate volume knob to solve this. Yep. If you want to test the theory change your sample rate and see if the number changes

Yeah I get a blinking on the 896mk3 but each sample rate has its own light. I'm guessing because the Ultralight is more compact they need to use the screen to display more of the info.

Not sure I can help, but I have noticed that for some reason the output seems a little hot. Good luck Darren Yeah, I noticed that too - if I limit the output of Logic to -0.3dB it stops the 896 going into the red. I don't suppose there's a way to adjust the calibration of the meters?
