What should standard output levels look like in CueMix?

Post by ericcarl »

I have a set of KRK RP5s as my monitors. When I first turned them on after buying them they were incredibly loud so I used their volume knobs on the back to bring them down. They are at about -26 db. They go down to -30 db.

They still seem incredibly loud though and I'm not sure if this is all correct or if my system isn't set up properly.

Here's iTunes playing a song at full volume:

And here are my CueMix levels:

Note that I have my CueMix Monitor Level set pretty low. The levels don't seem to peak above 24 db, but audibly these levels are pretty loud. I would think that looking at how low the meters are that it should be barely audible. Am I correct or am I missing something? Thanks for any help!

I got fed up with the levels appearing so low on my 896 and my monitors don't have volume controls so i bought a separate volume knob to solve this.

As your monitors DO have volumes I would suggest you try the following:

1. Turn the monitor volumes and the interface volume all the way down.
2. Start playback from your DAW
3. Gradually turn the interface volume all the way up (to 0dB)
4. Turn the monitor volumes up to a comfortable level

You should now see the correct level in CueMix. Hope this helps.
