Re: Slow stopping and saving on Macbook Pro
• Use fast external Firewire 800 drive for project files. (very important) Also, it must be formatted for MacOS. (also very important) It can also be External Serial ATA if you have the hardware. • Get more RAM. Lots more, like minimum 4X what you have now. (Very Important) • Flush UNDO. (may be im...

Slow stopping and saving on Macbook Pro
I do remote recording of high school concerts a couple of times a year, using an early 2011 Macbook Pro with 4GB RAM and the school's Mackie Onyx 1640i as a FW interface. I've been doing these concerts for years, and the setup has worked fine until recently. I am recording up to 12 tracks (varies de...

Re: Pitch correction weirdness
Just came here to see if anyone else was having similar problems. I'm finding that many pitch segments refuse to move. I can select them, but I can't move them. Or so it appears. But then when I save, close, and reopen the file, I find that that segment is way out of position, because all the time I...

Re: MW EQ
Yup, it's powerful, versatile, usable, and sounds good. There are plenty of times when I go to other EQs for specific things they do well, but MWEQ is the default and the workhorse. I particularly love the way you can use the different filter types in combination to build subtle tone-sculpting effec...

Re: Stillwell plug problems in DP7
Thanks Kubi, I've downloaded the betas and they seemed to have fixed the main problems so far. The transport hijack is a nuisance but I can live with it.

Stillwell plug problems in DP7
I just recently upgraded to DP7 from 5.13, and immediately began to notice serious issues with my Stillwell plugins--for instance, many of the controls in the GUI do not respond to the mouse. I notice that there are new betas of the plugs at the Stillwell site which are supposed to "improve sta...

Re: DP7... A love story.
I have DP7 sitting in a box in my studio while I finish a project that's dragging on longer than I expected. I may have to put it on hold while I start something new, because the client (aka my son) for the new project has a limited window (aka Christmas vacation) in which to work. So...has anybody ...

896HD + Digi 002R? Best way?
I'm going to be recording a high school jazz band session over the weekend. Normally I would use my Onyx 1640 board, but it's in the shop. I have an 896HD, and the school has a Digi 002R. I'm trying to figure out what is the best way (if there is a way) to use the two interfaces together with DP 5.1...

Re: Why does the wiper disappear when dragging audio? (DP 4.61)
I'm resurrecting this topic because this behavior has always bugged me and I'm curious if it has been fixed in DP6? Not only soundbites, but control points make the wiper disappear when you drag them. Right now I'm doing a large school concert editing project where the most time-consuming part of th...

Anybody doing cross-DAW collaborations with Cakewalk/Sonar?
A friend who is a Cakewalk guy wants to do a project where he's doing basic tracks at his place in Cakewalk and then bringing the files to my place to add tracks. Problem is, unlike DP where the audio files for each project live separately and portably in their own folder, apparently in Cakewalk all...

Re: Which is the Best Compression for vocals
I find that the UAD LA2A and Fairchild are the two best comps I have for lead vocals. Which one works better depends on the character of the voice and the mix, but I end up using the LA2A most of the time. I recently discovered that the LA2A's kid brother, the UAD LA3A, can be absolutely marvelous o...

Re: OK, you people who defend the MW Leveler...
I use an LA2A for 2 things; barely bump it to get maybe 3db of comression/limiting, or smash it all the way to mix in parrallel. I would never use it for heavy steady compression on a vocal for instance, the volume will be all over the place. But you *can* use the UAD LA2A that way--I do it all the...

Re: Mackie Onyx FW and DP
I have a 1640 and it works great with DP. I do with in-studio and remote recording with it. The only issue I ever have is that occasionally the FW inputs cease to function and I have to reboot the Mac to get them working again. However, since I switched from a G4 running Tiger to a MacPro running Pa...

Re: HELP! Routing audio to separate outputs on Mackie Onyx
One of the main shortcomings of the Mackie Onyx Series (including the 1640) firewire interfaces is that they only allow Stereo output from the computer. It WILL stream individual channels IN to the computer from each channel, but not out. Note that this isn't a limitation of the daw but the interfa...

Re: No way to escape input monitor?
Never mind. Total, total idiocy. I didn't notice that I had the input track assigned to one of the subgroups on the board. It wasn't assigned to the main LR bus, so I thought any signal must be coming from the DAW return.
