Stillwell plug problems in DP7

Post by Brian Middleton »

I just recently upgraded to DP7 from 5.13, and immediately began to notice serious issues with my Stillwell plugins--for instance, many of the controls in the GUI do not respond to the mouse.

I notice that there are new betas of the plugs at the Stillwell site which are supposed to "improve stability in all hosts." Have any DP7/Stillwell users tried these betas, and if so what kind of luck have you had with them?

Yes, whatever the latest versions are on the website work fine, except that they do "steal" the keyboard controls from DP while they are the frontmost window. This is apparently a DP problem related somehow to carbon/cocoa coding of plug-in GUIs, happens also i.e. with most recent versions of Spectrasonics etc. My guess is MOTU is probably already working to fix that particular issue...

Thanks Kubi, I've downloaded the betas and they seemed to have fixed the main problems so far. The transport hijack is a nuisance but I can live with it.

The transport hijacking issue is a Motu issue to fix, not Stillwell.

I posted a techlink to Motu regarding this and received the following reply:

"We are aware of the issues regarding cocoa built plug-ins, that when that plug-in window is the front most window open no key commands will trigger the transport function. We are working on an update for Digital Performer to resolve this issue."
