Concerning the MacBook Pro. I have one supplied to me at work that I use for, well, work stuff. Mostly SmartBoard software, and various Adobe Creative Suite apps like PhotoShop and InDesign. Compared to my own PowerBook G4, the MacBook is glitchy and troublesome. It drives me crazy because my PowerB...

"Split notes" and names of drum bits and pieces

When I use "split notes" to break a drum track into it's component parts in the tracks windows, the parts pitch names appear in the names field. It would be convenient if names like "acoustic snare" and "cow bell" appeared. I followed the advice on the famous patch name...

I figured something out. For some reason, when the MIDI files are dragged into DP they end up having quite a few hits where the duration is so short the hits don't register. Quantizing seems to help this a bit.

Thanks a lot. I'd eyeballed that "banks" folder and the thought crossed my mind... but then something else happened and I was distracted from it. It worked! But now I find, testing two identical tracks (drum tracks), one using the Quicktime sounds that come with the Mac OS, and the other w...

soundfonts, DLSMusicDevice, how? Help!!!!

Hello. Here's a question that probably exposes me as dumb. But anyway... I thought I'd like to have higher quality sounds than those produced by the QuickTime synthesizer. I downloaded the Sonic Networks 24 meg GM Wavetable. It's a soundfont thing, I do believe. Cost me $79 American, which is almost...

Drum track mysteries

My collaborator (who lives in a different city) sent me a MIDI drum track that he'd done as three separate tracks, bashing on the keyboard. He's on a PC and his sequencer is Cakewalk. (Yeah, I know.) He emailed me the MIDI file, and then soon after emailed me again asking if it had "turned into...

Now I have another dumb question. I've been looking at some 4 channel headphone amps. The direct inputs for each channel on the ones I've looked at are TRS connections. How would you suggest I get two outputs from the 828mkII to become ONE plug to go into the one jack for a given channel on the head...

Great explanation. Thanks. I guess in the back of my mind was whether there was a way to do it without having to invest in a 4 channel headphone amp, but I can see that that was a pipe dream!
I certainly would not want to be monitoring through software effects, so CueMix will be just the ticket.

Multiple headphone mixes 828mkII/896HD?

I wonder if people who have nailed a good system for sending 4 unique mixes to 4 headsets would outline their hardware and software setups. I would like to be able to record my 4 piece band with each player monitoring through headphones, with each player having the mix tweaked to his liking. I know ...

Thanks for the advice. I've just spent a couple of hours googling around for a utility that will do the conversion, but to no avail. Of course, I asked the guy who sent me the .rmi file to send me a proper MIDI file, but I thought that on the off chance that I got another of these .rmi things I'd be...

.rmi MIDI file conversion?

I was sent a .rmi file. It's some kind of MIDI file specific to Windows. Quicktime won't read it. Is there someway to read these files on a Mac, or is there some kind of conversion utility for turning it into a proper .mid file?
Thanks

.rmi MIDI file conversion?

I was sent a .rmi file, which seems to be a kind of MIDI file specific to windows. Quicktime does not recognize it. Is there some conversion utility I can use to turn it into something useable on a Mac?

Sample player for use with DP?

I'm one of the many victims of the disappearance of Bitheadz. Unity DS-1 was the first (and only) soft sampler I've dealt with. I forgot about the whole thing while I was focussing more on my live band, but since recently having some of my compositions rejected by band mates as being too much work, ...

I'm a primitive MIDI user, but one thing I've figured out is that there are two types of MIDI: One in which everything starts from 0, and one in which everything starts from 1. In the former, your Acoustic Grand Piano will be O, in the latter it will be 1. Could this have something to do with your p...
