Multiple headphone mixes 828mkII/896HD?

I wonder if people who have nailed a good system for sending 4 unique mixes to 4 headsets would outline their hardware and software setups. I would like to be able to record my 4 piece band with each player monitoring through headphones, with each player having the mix tweaked to his liking. I know about CueMix, sort of. It's the hardware issue that I'm most stumped on. For example, can I use ONE of the outputs on the back of the 828mkII to send a STEREO mix to a headset?

CueMix is the way to go. You have to use two outputs for a stereo mix, which means you'll need 4 headphone amps or a 4 channel headphone amp that you can run the separate stereo signals to. In CueMix there are four tabs that have one mix each. A drop down menu on the right that lets you select which output pair for that mix. You can rename the tabs so it's easier to see who's mix you are adjusting. There is also a main output fader for each of the busses. When we play live I use one buss for FOH and another for monitors. Works great.

This is a good way to accomplish your multi-monitor mix.

However: If you need to monitor any plugin effects or amp/speaker simulator plugins CueMix will not work. CueMix is direct hardware play-through only. In this case you would need to use sends from you DP tracks.

Great explanation. Thanks. I guess in the back of my mind was whether there was a way to do it without having to invest in a 4 channel headphone amp, but I can see that that was a pipe dream!
I certainly would not want to be monitoring through software effects, so CueMix will be just the ticket.

Now I have another dumb question. I've been looking at some 4 channel headphone amps. The direct inputs for each channel on the ones I've looked at are TRS connections. How would you suggest I get two outputs from the 828mkII to become ONE plug to go into the one jack for a given channel on the headphone amp?

How about an insert cable?: TRS to two mono quarter inch plugs. The outputs on the 828MKll are balanced but will accept an unbalanced plug.

It should, the TRS is basically a stereo plug like on a headphone cable.
Depends on how long a cable run you have, I guess.
