Note On to Program Change???

I have a large orchestral template in DP with almost every VI responding to the same keyswitches from C0-B0 and C7-B7 depending on the target instruments range. The only real fly in the ointment is LASS. I have all of LASS loaded up in Kontakt instrument banks with the individual patches responding ...

Re: Optimizing a Large Orchestral Template

What are your buffers in VE PRO? I never tweaked mine because I haven't hit a bottleneck yet buy I think upping the buffer multiplier could ease the CPU hit some. The latency would be compensated for on playback, you'd only have to deal with it when inputting MIDI. It's also the sort of thing that ...

Re: Barber's Adagio with LA Scoring Strings

This piece is an awfully hard exercise in restraint (live or sampled). I've always thought the more dense and bombastic the more convincing with samples, it's exposed pieces like this that tend to reveal the limitations in ANY sample library, especially strings. This is as good a mockup of this piec...

Re: So..how do I respond to this??

Switch to Logic, how's that for constructive :D If the problem wasn't addressed with an update then email blasting is probably your only option. In my experience, the users here are just as helpful with most issues as MOTU's tech staff, there's strength in numbers. Before I ever go through calling M...

Re: VE Pro and DP7.12, MIDI channels?

When you are in the config with Master and slaves on multicomputers. How you manage the latency come from the slave???? The latency is compensated for automatically on playback, it's not perfect but it's really close. I've only noticed problems with fast attack stuff like percussion but even then t...

Re: VE Pro and DP7.12, MIDI channels?

You sort of mean that's what Apple has adopted since it created the spec? And Logic has adopted. I think it would be up to Apple to update the spec. Ya it's Apple's design, I'd imagine the 3rd party devs have very little to do with it. I don't really know anything about the process but I'd expect A...

Re: VE Pro and DP7.12, MIDI channels?

This isn't an oversite on VSL's part but a limitation of the AU spec as I understand it. The AU spec limits any VI/effect to being able to address only one MIDI port (or 16 channels). Other specs like VST are able to address multiple ports but the AU isn't and that's what MOTU has adopted. I think t...

Re: LASS Auto Arranger Demo

I love the idea of these sort of auto arrangers but I wonder how useful they actually are when it comes to automating the orchestration process. Dividing lines amongst section and/or sizes are one of the most important parts of orchestration and with the string section where line crossing and wide l...

Re: Anyone Using a Mac Mini as a Slave?

If your just lookin for a straight up slave then I don't think there's more bang for the buck than building a windows 7 machine. For around $1000 and an afternoon of building and setup, I built an i7 slave that absolutely smokes my 08 Macpro. I thought long and hard about bringin windows back into m...

Re: DP 7.1 + Bidule + Jack OSX help please!

I've been using Bidule in rewire mode but I've just learned that rewire can only access a single core of my MacPro, which explains the poor performance I've been experiencing. I know that the single core restriction of the rewire spec should limit Bidule to a single core but in practice there does ...

That's always good advice. No reason to rush out and buy anything until you test drive it on your current system.

Re: LASS opinion wanted

You need a really fast machine, or better yet 2 machines, to operate all of LASS in divisi as you described, without rendering MIDI. I have LASS running basically everything except the glissando patches on an i7 920 off of one WD Caviar and it takes A LOT to choke that machine up. I haven't really ...

Re: Opinions wanted from those using LASS with DP

Can you explain how you edited this midnam file? Is it a simple text file? where is it located? thank you! HD-->Library-->Audio-->MIDI Devices-->MOTU-->Default Names.midnam TextEdit can read/edit the file. Just scroll down to <PatchNameList>, enter whatever you want inside of the quotes and save.

Re: Opinions wanted from those using LASS with DP

When I'm recording a unison line, I use DP's Device Groups to make a MIDI track that records all the divisi sections at the same time into one MIDI track. I've found this saves a lot of time in copying parts to different tracks. Do you use instrument banks with LASS? I could never get patch changes...
