Bounce to disk crashing DP6.01!

Post by hrw »

Ok. So now my excitement over 6.01 working at all has dissipated and i am starting to run into deeper problems a few weeks in.
I had a disastrous experience i hope no one else ever goes through. I had to make last minute changes to a track while clients were present and bouncing to disk crashed many times!
In a professional situation this is the ultimate nightmare! The session ran over time which as we all know is not good.
Also BTD function now takes alot longer in DP6/6.01 compared to 5.13 re loading all the vi's twice it seems. Its a drag. i had to restart dp and trash prefs several times to get it working. it would for a bit, then crash in BTD functions. This kind of instability could be a deal breaker. BTD is one of THE ESSENTIAL functions of a DAW.
Anyone had these kind of issues or has remedies?
Thanks in advance guys, Haydn.

Well you can always record your mix to a stereo track rather than using BTD. Real time, but very safe, and you check the mix as it goes down.

+1

It really is the best work around, plus the client can check the mix as well.

I get crash when I BTD without freezing VIs. Especially with Kotakt3 and Kontakt playper..
Does anyone have the same problem?

DP 6.01, Mbox 2 Pro. Mac pro 8 core. Lots of VIs.

Yeah. But you have to BTD function afterwards anyway. Yes?

Once your mix is recorded to a stereo track it can simply be exported, no need for a BTD.

kind regards

This is true-- and it is a lot easier if you're already working in native aif or wav. In fact, a formal soundbite export isn't even necessary at that point. The file resides in the project's Audio folder and can be imported by any other app (that supports wav or aif) directly from the DP Audio folder.

As in the suggestions above, we have been recording our mixes to audio tracks for years now - however when the client is elsewhere and we need to send a Quicktime or MPG, so they can see pictures and sound - then we need to BTD, to the Quicktime format. And this is when it can hang. Specifically when using Play or Kontakt, as after bouncing, it reloads the sounds, which is when the crash happens. And I've just got Omnisphere, and that makes this problem much worse - for some reason Omnisphere loads in a completely different Multi - or DP hangs completely. I'm pretty sure it's not an Omnisphere problem, as the NI VIs also reload their sounds after bouncing - so it must be DP6.01?

Make sure you dont have any tracks record armed before bouncing. I seem to remember this causing issues in the past...... just a thought!

You can still bounce to AIFF, then load it into Quicktime Pro. It's under $40, and is an incredible bargain.
