Inexpensive USA Audio Interfaces with DP4

Post by llamingo »

I'm trying to choose an inexpensive USB Audio Interface for a high school lab running DP4. I've been looking at the Edirol UA-1X and the Griffin iMic. (Wish we could afford better, but that's public education!) I know the iMic works with DP - does the Edirol? Any recommendations? Is the Edirol worth twice as much $?

Thanks for any help or advice!

whatever you do don't get the Edirol UA-20.
unless you are also in need of a shiny doorstop.

after the UA-20 fiasco (that's what you get when you try to cheap out) i got a Tascam US-224. i was very happy with it for a long time, not Hi Fi that's for sure but it gets the job done.

i never used it with DP though, i was using the horrendous Cubase at the time, so i can't vouch for it on OSX and DP.

cheers!

SHould be plug and play. Just select it in your audio hardware setup. Works great with my laptop.

Did you go into Audio/MIDI Setup and see if the iMic shows up? There may also be a driver online.

yes, iMac shows up, but when I select it, I receive a message: need to configure coreaudio to accept two channels. I dunno, sheesh.

Wow. I always thought that the UA-20 was one of the most stable USB devices around!

My main units are a 2408mk3 and RME HDSP, but I also keep a UA-20 as an emergency unit because it's stable and quick to set up.

Tascam US122 was my first interface, and it was halfway decent... $199. Two XLR ins, phantom power, and MIDI.
