Motu 828 mkII Freezes after using it for 30 minutes to 1hr

Post by Frank Q »

I just started having this issue with my Motu 828mkII. I'm not sure the technical term for it but it Freezes/stops working after using for 30 minutes to 1hour. To get it going again I have to shut it off and turn it on again. I downloaded the Motu Universal Audio Install-OSX driver 1.4.1 and the problem seems to persist. I'm not sure what to do, or what's causing it to stop working/freeze up? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Please give me as many suggestions to try and fix this issue.
Thank you in advance,

Frank

P.s If this helps, I'm using a mac G5, Logic Pro 7, Live, and Reason.

So.... your software still responds, but there is no output of audio? Is this what you mean by freezing? Have you done the factory default reset? (As described in the manual? Page 56 in mine.) I hope some of this helps.

No luck, :( now it just works for a few minutes then the Motu 828 mkII just freeze again (On the MOTU's LCD screen there is little bar that looks like a fader that normally blinks when it's working.) I have to turn the MOTU OFF and turn it ON to get it to work. It also stops working/Freezes when I playing something in iTunes for a while. At this point I'm not sure what is causing it to freeze up or stop working. I'm not sure if it's a Hardware or software problem. Any suggestions to fix this inconvenience would really be helpful. If you need any other info that might help you to diagnose the problem let me know.

P.S
I tried emailing MOTU tech support a few times and have not received any response in Days :x, so that suggestion is out of the question.

I don't have a specific suggestion, but generally you should try to "divide and conquer" a problem like this. For example, if you just turn the unit on but don't play any audio through it does it "freeze" anyway? How about if it's just being used as a mixer (run an external analog source through it and out to the monitors, but don't use the FireWire). How about sending/capturing audio at different sample rates -- does that make the problem happen more quickly/frequently or not? These are the kinds of things that I would do to get some insight as to where the problem lies.

I get the same thing, fcp refuses to output audio after a few mins, the 828 still works cuz I have a DAT running thru the SPDIF port of the 828 and it syncs well with my Tascam 302. I think the soft is buggy OR one has to aquire a pci-express firewire card so that it has its own port. Most Mac towers share ports with all their firewire sockets, which is why you cannot had an HD running the same time you are trying to ingest footage. Calling Motu tomorrow about this.
