DP 5.1 and AU Validation

Post by realityloop »

Howdy
I installed OSX 10.4.7 and DP 5.1 (5.120376 is the build) from OSX 10.3.9 and DP 4.12 a couple of days ago.
Everything is fine with SX3/Spark xl and my audio system etc. the problem I am having is when I launch DP5.1 it starts to validate AU's and then it does it again before launching DP. If I quit out and reload DP it then validates AU's again (twice) before launching.
I have dumped AU info cache and prefs as well as DP4.12, moved all 3rd party AU's into disabled except M5 and Ethno (which work fine once DP launches) and no difference.
I am sure I am doing something quite stupid but have no idea what it might be :D
Any help would be very much appreciated.
Also it would be excellent if someone could inform me as to where I can find and remove Apple AU's!
Cheers and thanks in advance

Thanks giles117 but I can't find any apple AU's there, I was refering to au's like matrixreverb etc. I have not been able to locate them through any searches on the osx drive.
Cheers!

You cannot delete Apple AUs. They are hidden somewhere and not accessible.

Thanks Resonate Alien, that would explain why I can't find them.
I have watched all of them validate a few hundred times in the last few days and still can't figure out what AUnetsend is for!
cheers

These were new AU's introduced in Tiger. AUNetSend and AUNetReceive operate in a pair, with NetSend transmitting audio to NetReceive. You can use them over the network, or just between two applications on the same computer. NetSend advertises itself with Bonjour (formerly known as Rendezvous), which NetReceive then looks for, so they are completely painless to set up.

Hope that helps.

Thanks Frodo.
Watching AUNetSend validate I began to wonder if it was a similar plug to RocketNetworks plug which made me quite excited. Thanks for the heads up AUnetsend I will read up on this and see what the upside is from an audio perspective.
As an update to my original post I have reinstalled Tiger and 5.1 from scratch and still have the same problem with AU validation, I can't figure out where I am getting it wrong.
My system has always worked fine with DP 3 forwards and I have never had any problems with installs. I still use a PCI 324/2408 II and O2R, never had any problems.
I'll just keep plodding away at it.
Cheers

Check for the file named "MachFive MAS. bundle'. Look at the date in the finder. If the date does not match the day you installed MachFive, then trash it and reinstall the MachFive v.1.2.3 update. Look for all '.bundle' files and '.component' files, perhaps even Preferences and Audio Unit Info Cache-- trash them-- reinstall a fresh copy of problem apps and then try the reinstall and reboot of DP 5.1 again.

I would consider doing the manual uninstalls first-- reinstalling DP and then reinstalling all else afterwards.

It may be necessary to go through all of your third-party plugins-- to do a manual uninstall of all bundles and components and then reinstall them. I struggled with this for days until I finally tweazed out the offending culprits.

The DP Installer's Uninstaller doesn't do all that it should, whether or not it does all that it was intended to do. Some things must be done manually on some systems.

By the way, I tip my hat to chrispick who led me in the right direction.

One other thing:

I have Logic and I admit that starting things up in Logic really helped to jumpstart things for DP, funny to say.

Thanks Frodo,
I spoke to tech support at Motu (didn't catch the name) and they sorted me out very quickly.
I had two copies of the MAS AudioUnit Support Bundles residing on my OSX drive. That in turn was the cause of both the double scanning during AU validation and the reason DP 5.1 then proceeded to re-scan the plugs when I re-launched.
I have to say DP5.1 seems to run extremely well on my G4 1.25 dual, I am very surprised. I am able to achieve a higher VI count while at the same time placing less pressure on cpu resources. Its early days yet!
Thanks Frodo and all for your help and a big thanks to Motu tech support.
Cheers
