Raptor Drive update
Well, there is definitely a problem with the 16mb cache drives and G5's. Things kept getting worse and I eventually sent the drive back. Do any of you guys know if the 8mb drives are more stable with G5's?

I posted this once before on this forum. There is a problem with some Western Digital drives with the G5 SATA interface check the link below. Your best solution if you already have this drive is to add a SATA controller card.

I'm actually following up on an earlier thread I started, I told others who were interested from the thread that I would post results from what I heard from WD. What I heard was nothing....so I'm checking with some of the other users to see if the 8mb cache drives work any different. I'm aware of the pci card situation...thanks.

I have been using the 150gb 16mb cache Raptor on the internal SATA bus of a Quad G5 without any trouble since January. I use it as an audio drive, not a boot drive. I also have a PCIe Hi Point card hooked up to several external 76gb Raptors working fine. Reading the WD report referenced in this forum raises concerns, but since I have experienced no issues to date, I'll leave it set up as-is.
