I was told that the host buffer multiplier doubles whatever you have your buffer set too, of course I have the manual sitting right here, I guess I could look : )

Not really, I have seen some SATA controller cards as low as $49. Most are around $99. I am not sure if the Seagate 10K drives have any issues with G5 SATA. I almost exclusivelty buy Western Digital hard drives because I have never had one give me any trouble. I did have a Seagate croak once but that would not make me avoid them as many people seem happy with them. I do avoid Maxtor at any cost. After I had a spindle motor failure I did some research and found an awful track record for Maxtor.
