loading existing .mid files?

Post by travisbrown »

Umm.. how come I can't seem to load a .mid file in DP5? Can't drag and drop, can't load from any menus... doesn't matter if it is an existing session or not.

What's the trick?

Hello.
Try to drag the .mid file in the chunk window, that should work.

Tried that. Nothing. File just springs back into the finder window. This is crazy. Tried it with a few different .mid files.

select info on file... to do that select file and hit "apple I"

In the dialog open with change to...
open iwith DP...

double click on icon and it will open in a DP file...

then save the file before you start to work on it...

I just had the same thing earlier today. What worked for me was making sure there were enough adjacent MIDI tracks in the tracks window... once there were, I was able to drag the .mid directly into the tracks window.

Hope that helps,

Toodamnhip: .mid is a MIDI data file. Could be a song or other tune of MIDI sequence.

Waxman, that doesn't work. DP starts up, but doesn't load the file. Doesn't err out, just starts DP. I'd already tried this by ctrl clicking and opening with DP. Neither method works.

I know the .mid is okay; I can open with every other MIDI app. Tried other .mid files too.

By all rights I should be able to just drag the file to the tracks window and create a new track.

I don't know why that is not working on your set up. I just did it and it works fine...

dragging works if you have enough MIDI tracks

I dunno. I can't get any MIDI file loaded any way. Same in DP 4.6. It's a single part MIDI file. I think all I'd need is one track; but I even tried it with a new 32 track session.

I can load it in Sibelius fine.

You might try renaming it to .MIDI

have you tried loading it into a chunk, rather than dragging it - this might show if there's something wrong with the file??

Travis:

With DP running, no project open, have you tried the "Open" command to see if you can just open the MIDI file as opposed to importing it?

If successful, you'll be presented a window, where you have to reassign the different channels to match your set-up.

Just a quick thought!
