Not sound quality, but occationally I have seen posts where someone fixed a problem with system stability (computer crashing, dropouts, unit resets, etc.) by replacing the firewire cable. But sound quality? Not a chance.

i disagree on one basis. ground looping causing line noise. i had a problem with the mbox where i had a huge noise floor and i didn't know why. turns out i didn't have shielded usb cable and it was causing a ground loop.
but as far as the clairity of the signal, they are right it wouldn't. however better cable can help conductivity, which would make say, more data to be able to be transfered across, or less data loss from transfer.

I just moved my computers into another room and needed a longer cable...The tech page says the MK3 can handle audiowire cables up to 60 feet. This cable is 50ft and I am getting crackling on the analog channels...Any Audiowire input on the back of the card (1-4) create the same result...Any ideas???

try shielded gold plated cable, avoid having the cable in a coil, running across power lines across speakers, monitors, or any other magnetic device.
wow 60 feet. thats also beyond the acceptable distance for cabling too. time to moove your mk3 closer to your computers. they say no more than 25 feet before signal degridation occurs. unless you by super expensive high qual cable of course, but even then it's iffy

djencode -- ground loops through the FireWire cable. I hadn't thought about that, and I stand corrected. Good thinking.

GOT IT
WENT TO BUY A NEW FIREWIRE GOLD CABLE AND NOW NO MORE STOPS OR CRACKLES ON THE ULTRALITE......
THE CABLE IS CALLED PROFIGOLD (by bandridge) , it says that is has 24k gold plated contacts that ensures optimum signal transfer...
I HOPE THIS HELPS OTHER PEOPLE TOO
THANKS A LOT FOR ALL THE ADVICES AND NOTES,
LUIS O.
