Keeping Using 2408mk3 & 24i/o

Post by lampfilmusic »

Sorry if this sounds too newbie…

My older Mac died irrepairably. Have Mac 7.1, 2019 tower now, running OS X Monterey 12.7.4. I fitted the old MOTU PCIe card into this, as I’d read somewhere it was compatible.

I tried to install the MOTU Audio System from the MOTU website, but it’s saying that that driver only works up to OS X 10.14. This is to be able to keep running my dependable 2408mk3 and 24i/o.

I’ve a horrible feeling that fate is going to try to make me buy new equipment, when the old equipment is not broken. :x

I’ve looked at various thread here from people with similar issues, but not found an answer.

Is there a way to get the 2408mk3 and 24i/o working again with the Mac Pro 2019 running OS X Monterey 12.7.4?

Perhaps someone will write software so that people can continue using adequate hardware.

Many, many threads on this. Apple changed the firmware requirements in 2013 and that’s the issue. Despite all of those telling us how easy it should be, no one has yet made the 424e work in a PCIe extender over Thunderbolt (MOTU did try) or in the PCIe slots in the last two Mac Pros. It can be made visible but that’s as far as anyone has gotten.

The companies that cracked that nut did so with cards that had updatable firmware including UAD. UAD’s legacy cards without updatable firmware were left in the cold.

There are Windows users that can get it working over 32bit.
