Disable/ Enable Track bug in DP 11.1- anyone else?

Post by ghobish »

Anyone else seeing this bug in DP 11.1?

Never an issue before. When I enable a disabled track or disable an enabled track, the program hard crashes with "DP quit unexpectedly."

This is in a new project (from a template) with 13 stereo tracks, 3 aux tracks and a Master track, no audio soundbytes loaded, no plugins, no MIDI.

Not here, but 11.1 has been crashtastic for some. I solved most of those issues, but they were related to instrument tracks.

I would do a Safe Boot of both the Mac and DP. These have fixed random crashes for me so often in DP that I now do both after an install or update.

Both are ancient Stupid Mac Tricks.

I opened a ticket for this at MOTU; it has now been acknowledged as a known bug.

Hoo-boy, yes! Confirmed.

DP11.1 crashes immediately when enabling instrument tracks here too. A workaround is to disable MAS and enable them while in MIDI Only mode, but that only will work on local instruments in the sequence from the SE. I don't know of way enable instruments in a V-Rack while in MIDI Only.

Booting the Mac into Safe Mode (which is now kind of a convuluted pain on AS Mac's imo), or DP into Safe Mode didn't help.

I'll report this too.

...weirdly intermittent for me though. While investigating whether this was related to the new Enhanced Instrument Tracks, at some point the crash behavior went away, and I can dis/enable tracks normally in that sequence. New documents created with a template created in 11.04 or earlier has the crash-on-enable issue, but new documents created from scratch in DP11.1 do not.

Not seeing this issue here. Currently working on projects started in DP10.13. I'll check again after lunch...

Hmm. So not an M1 issue.

I happen to be working on a project dredged up from 2013 (DP8?), and it has the issue, as does any sequence I've tried that was built from a template I created last July with DP11, or 11.01.

...this thread should be probably get moved to Trouble Shooting/Criticism.

I can't make it happen on my iMac Pro or M1 MBAir. It will be interesting to see if there's an identifiable culprit or if it gets listed in a later release as 'fixed'.

Curiouser and curiouser. Thanks everyone for confirming.

I also notice that that the OP doesn't specify that the issue only happens on Instrument tracks, which is the case for me. I have no issues dis/enabling audio tracks. ...oh, and the OP isn't on an M1, so that wasn't ever a factor I guess.

After MOTU support asked me which window I was using when it crashed, I noticed DP11.1 doesn't crash when doing dis/enabling from the SE. It only happens when en/disabling tracks from the Mixer or the Channel Strip - happens when en/disabling Audio tracks from the Mixer too. ...so that's an easy enough workaround except for instruments in a V-Rack, which can only be accessed from the Mixer. Dis/enabling channels or instruments in a V-Rack also crashes DP11.1.

Yes, I've been having this too on a 2019 MacBook Pro running Catalina. Thanks for the reminder, I think I had found and forgot the workaround. I'm glad MOTU is aware of it :-)
