phase invert?

Post by chancellor »

Does anyone know how to flip the phase of a track by 180 degrees? For the life of me... I cannot find this task in the manual.

Thx,
Ken

It's 785 in the 4.5 manual actually. Right column.

It drove me nuts too. It is not in the index.

interesting, my 4.5 user guide has the chapter 58 Sample Rate/Format Conversion starting on page 785..... is there more than one version of the manual?

p. 787 Sample Rate/Format Conversion.

The page numbers don't match!!!!!!!!!!

It is not an offset of more than one but all the same. The manuals don't match. That is kind of odd!

Now we have a mystery on our hands!!!!

Let us see if there is any consistency....

Chapter 1 The Digital Performer Project.... page 7

Appendix B Troubleshooting and Support...... page 973

Anyone know why this is a separate download rather than included with DP?

I'll just keep mentioning this:

There is absolutely no way, ever to have a button that will time-offset complex, non-symetrical waveforms by exactly 180 degrees. The idea doesn't make sense.

What everyone is talking about (as well as MOTU and others have mislabeled) is POLARITY inversion. Polarity is negative or positiveness of a signal. And there is no such thing as degrees of polarity. Phase means TIMING offset and degree measurements can only be applied to totally regular waveforms.

Yes but every waveform, no matter how complex, is still composed of a bunch of regular sinusoids. And depending how some of those constituent waveforms "line up", you either have phase issues or don't. So, I don't think that using the term phase is completely off base.

Thanks for all of the assistance! Like a few of you mentioned. The simple task of inverting the track was buried in a plug in. Not well documneted in the index of the book.
In an effort to mitigate future frustrations. I was thinking of ordering the MacAudio Lab Digital Performer DVD tutorial videos. Does anyone have any experience with them? Perhaps then I'll be able to share some knowledge.

Thx,
Ken
