Not a Mac OSX issue other than I'm using a Mac, apologies.
My 828 original has distortion on input and output channels 1 and 5, both analog and digital. Seems too much a coincidence to be bad jacks. Is this a known problem?
The MIDI Express XT parallel loses channel 6 when the internal battery dies, I'm wondering if there is a similar non-intuitive issue with the 828.

Re: 828 bad in/out channels
Your unit is over 20 years old. There are many internal components that go bad with age but that particular symptom doesn't ring a bell.
My only recommendation is to give it a thorough cleaning. Take apart every socketed connector and ribbon cable and put back together three times. When inside, check for bulging caps and heat damage around the FW ports or solder joints. Spray some DeOxIt into each of the jacks.
This will make a difference or it won't but I've had great success with this over the years.

Re: 828 bad in/out channels
Thank you for the reply. I actually found you give this advice in a past thread and so I've already tried it myself, unfortunately it had no effect.
I wanted to assume that all the distortion is connected to a single cause, if it is then I wonder through what common path channels 1 and 5 of both analog and optical are running.
