+80 db is not enough? Are these people using mics or just shouting at the hard drive?

The fader only gives 16dB gain max.

First of all, that's hilarious. And yes, sometimes there are tracks with pitifully low levels (from clients or other sources, obviously).

I didn't know if that gain option would cause clipping-- if the sample's level exceeds zero.

My use of normalizing is always related to exporting soundbites as samples, tracks, mixes, MP3s, archives, etc.

I was looking at the text from the manual you posted above.

It is wrong. Just used the fader yesterday, confirmed +16 is all you getunless you merge and re-applyt. Sorry for inspiring confusion.

One reason why I got in the habit of doing this in DSP-Q. It has the Normalize To command which, technically I suppose, is not a Normalize function, but is at least a gain that avoids the possibility of clipping.

Well there's another thing I was totally oblivious to. I've used Bite Gain but I've always selected it from the Audio Menu. Now I have another time saver. Thanks HC. :D

I add my thanks for the little fader tip.
That will be a big time saver for me.
Much appreciated!
