one-key shortcut to quantize in specific values

Post by FREIMUZIC »

Greetings, everyone!
I'm a long time DP user. Currently on DP 9.52 with Mojave.

As everyone knows, it is easy to open the quantize window with the shortcut "command 0"
I wonder if anyone knows how can I program a one-key shortcut to quantize in eight notes, another one-key shortcut to quantize in sixteenths, etc. I'm pretty sure it cannot be done within DP's "Command" window.

Best regards,

Daniel Freiberg

A macro app like Keyboard Maestro or QuicKeys can easily do that. I use QK for similar things, and I can't tell you how much time and redundant moves it's saved me.

Tascam DM-24, MOTU Track 16, all Spectrasonics' stuff,
Vienna Instruments SUPER PACKAGE, Waves Mercury, slaved iMac and Mac Minis running VEP 7, etc.

Thanks a lot for the advice, FMiguelez !
Since I have never used Keyboard Maestro... will the Keyboard Maestro sequence be dependent on the look of my screen at the time of triggering the shortcut? In other words, will K Maestro be effective regardless of my DP windows configuration (consolidated window, Sequence window, Track window, etc) or display zoom level?

My pleasure.
It depends on the detail of how you set up the KM sequence, but typically it does matter where the windows open (their screen coordinates). At least most of my own sequences are dependent on where windows are placed in DP. However, since DP always remembers the location of the windows, it's never a problem and it's always reliable.

My favourite sequences are the ones I use to switch from Lines to Bars mode for CCs in the GE and to switch to/from a plethora of MIDI CCs and Reshape Tool modes.

It's so cool to press a key and just watch how things happen automatically as if by magic. I'm sure you'll keep finding workflows where you'll want to do them with KM. For DP and anything else... it can be addictive :)

Happy macro-making. Greetings from México City too!

You can do that in the Quantize window mini menu - save presets and then assign keys.

Thanks so much for the advice, CharlzS!
I have saved the presets in the Quantize window mini menu, but how do you assign key-commands to trigger those presets on DP?

Daniel

In the Quantize mini menu - Set Preset Key Bindings. It will bring up the Commands window to assign keystrokes there.

Thanks again, CharlzS!

I am on DP 9.52. Sorry, but I can't find "Set Preset Key Bindings"

My Quantize mini menu only shows 2 options:
Save presets
Reveal presets in finder
...below these 2 options are the quantize presets I saved: q16.dpfxclip , q8.dpfxclip , etc

If I open the "Commands" window I only see
Export Key Bindings
Save Key Bindings
Revert to Default Key Bindings

Am I missing something?
Regards,
Daniel

Create and save the Quantize preset, then go back to the mini menu and select Set Preset Key Binding. This brings up the Commands Window. Search for Quantize. It should be there with the name you gave the preset in parentheses after the word Quantize.

Thanks for your advice, bayswater!

Here is an image of my Quantize mini menu. I wonder why it doesn't show "Set Preset Key Binding"...maybe I need to erase my preferences and start from a clean preference file?

I'm also in 9.52, and there's no "Set Preset Key Binding" in the mini menu.

Probably Keyboard Maestro is the way to go.

It's nice to know that DP10 may bring some new key bindings.

Hey Daniel,

Thank you for opening this topic.
I use the quantize window frequently and had no idea that I could assign key commands to saved settings.

This is a very cool feature!

I'm running DP 10.13 and I just tested it.
Works great!

I had no idea that MOTU had added the implementation.

Maybe upgrading to 10.13 could solve the problem for you?

So far, for me, I've had no downside to using the current version.

That said, I know each system is very complex and you may have good reasons to stay on 9.52.
All is well

In earlier versions without the mini menu option for key bindings try searching in the Commands window for whatever you named the preset on save. It might be in a section called Region Operation Presets towards the end. I think it's always been there as part of the presets feature, but DP10 just gives you an easier way to get there. I don't remember if 9.x has the Run Command window (cmd spacebar) which would bring up the preset without having to assign a key. Though maybe this is all new with DP10 - 9.x seems like forever ago. Someone threw an expander on my sense of time.
