Anyone using Polar?
I'm curious if anyone is using Polar and how you are utilizing it. I found this article which was a nice refresher:

Re: Anyone using Polar?
Comping and Polar were covered in the Webinar on Thursday, so when they post the session there will be some good DP10 video with practical applications. There are also some good videos on YouTube. I had mostly forgotten Polar was there.

The Thursday webinar went over Polar. I’d never paid attention to it before.

Re: Anyone using Polar?
I do what I need just recording with memory cycle on, and then comping the takes. I've tried Polar a few times since V 4, but never found it intuitive. Seemed like a clever solution looking for a problem.

Re: Anyone using Polar?
One thing about POLAR is that, like Chunks, BTD and plug-ins, it uses RAM.
This is useful to remember the next time one of those "no one needs more than xGB RAM" threads shows up again.

That's easy for you to say with 128G.mikehalloran wrote:One thing about POLAR is that, like Chunks, BTD and plug-ins, it uses RAM.

Re: Anyone using Polar?
Once when I had (apparently) erroneously used Songs to create a playlist of Chunks for a musical theater backing, I found that Polar was the only way I could capture a 'bounce' of the mix within DP for the entire show.

Re: Anyone using Polar?
I sometimes like using Polar for things like guitar textures.
I will say, it would be immensely more useful if you could put inserts into the record path like a tape loop, or if DP would allow you to route the outs back to the ins. I doubt that'll happen though. Ah well

Re: Anyone using Polar?
First I used Polar live with MIDI triggering samples. I created a set of remembered times and then switched to them manually to create phasing loops of different instruments and soloed over them. Now, broadcasting on Twitch (as soundpilot) I use a headset and create phasing loops 9/8, 6/4, 14/8 4/4/ with acoustic instruments and solo on a vibraphone. No live audience so I don't monitor in the air. I just wish that I could assign remembered times to MIDI notes or key commands.
Re: Anyone using Polar?
I am a percussionist, and use it to make percussion loops in projects. I have had people sending me a mix that needs percussion to "liven" things up. Thanks to Polar I could send off 10 8 bar tracks within 30 minutes.
I am currently working on Logic simply because a lot of my collaborators do, but I miss Polar.

Re: Anyone using Polar?
I use it all the time to record stack of backing vocals or complex guitar arpeggios
It's a great tool and for me the one tool I couldn't be without.
