Retrospective MIDI record - tip

Post by MIDI Life Crisis »

Ya know, I didn't think this was such a big deal. It 'effing is. lol

I've now saved several really good takes while noodling to picture. It's really nice not to lose a performance that works. Oh yeah the tip, so to speak...

If you happen to play back with a track with data but muted, and have performed to that same record enabled track (with the record button inactive), if you do the RESTROSPECTIVE MIDI RECORD thang it replaces the existing track. Problematic. Not...

Before retrieving the retrospective MIDI, create a new take. The retro MIDI will be placed in the new take. That's pretty forward thinking on the part of the programmers, IMO.

Also, it gets even easier. Either create a new track or select any MIDI track and arm the record button. Then select retro MIDI and it is placed on whatever track is in record mode when the retro action is called.

Thanks, guys and gals and whatever your pronoun may be. :woohoo:

And another thing! lol

If an audio track is set to record, MIDI retro is greyed out. Selecting a MIDI track to record will bring the option back.

But wait, there's more!

If you are still tracking and hit retro MIDI the track appears you can continue tracking. So awesome.

I haven't used retrospective MIDI record for a while. For some reason retrospective MIDI seems to show up on the track that is selected in my MIDI GE rather than the track I had record enabled. Is this normal? Thx
