MIDI from audio
Is there a way to create MIDI from an audio track. I want to create a MIDI track to trigger a synth bass from my audio bass track and blend the two in a mix.
thanks

Re: MIDI from audio
YMMV. I've had limited success with this. It helps if the audio track is very clean, dry, simple and monophonic:

Something to check out if you'll be doing this often: https://www.jamorigin.com/
You can blend in real time and they have a version specifically for bass with free trials.

What's interesting is I don't know if that was a joke.cuttime wrote:Page 944 these days.

Re: MIDI from audio
I haven't used it in a while, but Melodyne does a pretty good job of this.

That's sorta' what I was a thinking, too. The proverbial haystack keeps getting bigger. That said, the searchable .pdf manual does make the task less daunting than it used to be...Phil O wrote:What's interesting is I don't know if that was a joke.cuttime wrote:Page 944 these days.

Not a joke. The thread I originally linked to gave a different page number, and I did it to avoid confusion,HCMarkus wrote:That's sorta' what I was a thinking, too. The joke is on me. I mistakenly went to page 994 instead of page 944. Page 994 is blank.

Re: MIDI from audio
I tend to use the manual dexterity method, being essentially a keys player these days. I don't say that flippantly (or don't I?... lol). But if the music is accessible within your technique, it might be a lot quicker and more accurate just entering the notes from a controller.

Re: MIDI from audio
Melodyne can be quite successful at this, depending on the source.
Where it breaks down the worst, is when you've recorded something from a keyboard ROMpler with the master effects and reverb at default settings, which invariably are quite high. This causes massive confusion in distinguishing unique notes, as reverb tails can get discretized to lots of individual staccato hits.
