Post by rangerx »

i like D10, but do miss the MIDI auto takes , from what i read its only audio that has this option to do takes on the fly , is there a keyboard short cut for this , or a work around in DP

I haven't tried this, but as per the manual p240, you can change takes on a MIDI track while recording. So you could presumably assign the key command "New Take" to a MIDI note or switch that you could hit on each pass to get to the next take. Or just press cntl-alt-N if that's convenient.

I agree. It's odd that DP doesn't have the option to just increment the take with each pass in cycle record mode for MIDI as it does for Audio, especially given the emphasis placed on making MIDI and Audio work the same way.

This is something I've been asking for years!
It's so counterproductive not having new (MIDI) takes added automatically while in cycle mode and I can't, for the sake of me, understand why they haven't implemented it yet.

That's how it seems at least, given also that this is how it works with audio.
Apart from this (and probably a couple more) omissions and some minor bugs which I'm sure they'll be fixed in the next update or two, I must say that I'm really happy with DP10!
What an efficient, deep and mature tool we have in our hands! Kudos to MOTU for this great update!

Has this been implemented, if so - can someone please walk me through it?

Thanks

No. If you cycle record on a MIDI track your options are to overwrite or merge. The workaround would be to create a lot of MIDI tracks and arrange them in order in the Tracks window, set up a cycle and record on the first track. For each cycle you could press the down arrow so the next track is armed for that pass. You could also assign a MIDI Note to the down arrow in the Commands window so you can use your controller to advance through the tracks. Each of your takes now appear as separate MIDI tracks, rather than takes in one MIDI track.

There is no comp tools to use to assemble these MIDI tracks. You'd have to use the basic cut/paste/delete etc., to assemble the events you want in a comp track.
