Performance issue with tempo changes
I'm working on a piece using VEPro and LA scoring strings. Performance is ok, until I put a 'rall' in.
I always get pops and clicks, like I'm suddenly sapping the CPU.
What the heck?
Can anyone assist?
Thanks in advance.

Re: Performance issue with tempo changes
I have that problem too.
I just live with the clicks and pops until it's time to print the mix, and then I raise the buffers to like (1024?) and it prints OK with no clicks and pops.
Not an optimal solution, but at least you can print a mix.

Re: Performance issue with tempo changes
Thanks for the reply. Good work around.
After doing more research, many people switch off "tempo sync' in Kontakt if you are using sounds that don't rely on it. I certainly alleviates the problem.
I'm now wondering whether downgrading Kontakt 5.6.6 to an older version might help.

Whenever I see the words "VEP" or "Kontakt" I reflexively reach for the link to this great video by member Steve Steele. Let me know if it has any nuggets that helped you out with this issue, if you would!Justin_K wrote:Thanks for the reply. Good work around.

Re: Performance issue with tempo changes
That seems like a great video. I'll watch it in the evening. Thanks Terry.
Justin, this may be a long shot, but I wonder how dense your tempo ramps are?
You can make a rallentando with hundreds of points, or just a few. Have you tried reducing the density? I know you can do so with CCs etc., and they, cummulatively, can slow things down a lot.
Might be worth a shot. Won't take more than 2 minutes to check if it makes a difference.

You beat me to it, FM. I was just about to suggest taking a look at "Thin Continuous Data."FMiguelez wrote:Have you tried reducing the density? I know you can do so with CCs etc., and they, cummulatively, can slow things down a lot.

Re: Performance issue with tempo changes
Thanks for the replies everyone, and I'll definitely check out the video Terry.
FM, yes I have just simplified the density of tempo changes, and it has helped, thanks.
Also, I'm now working at the 256 buffer (an obvious tweak yes, but since I was observing performance issues in the most simple of setups, I discounted this tweak for a while).
thanks again, things are becoming more settled now.

Re: Performance issue with tempo changes
Good to know it's better.
But a 256 buffer is too small.
When mixing, definitely raise it as high as possible. That must've had something to do with your issue too, I think.
