DP and OSX Prefs questions

Post by chamelion »

In the last 5 minutes I've discovered two new knowledge gaps that I just know I'm going to kick myself for when the answers come to light.

1. I remember seeing in one of the posts to consider going to OSX prefs>Energy Saver>Options, and setting the CPU performance to optimal (in relation to CPU spikes in DP). I'm running OSX 10.4.3, and my Energy Saver>Options tab doesn't have any mention of CPU performance. There are 4 checkboxes: Under 'Wake Options' there are 'Wake when the modem detects a ring' and 'Wake for Ethernet network administrator access. Under 'Other Options', there are 'Allow power button to sleep the computer' and 'Restart automatically after a power failure'. The only other selectable items are 'Restore Defaults', 'Schedule', 'Show All' (which takes you back to the main OSX prefs window), and 'Click the lock to prevent further changes'. That's it. Any ideas?

2. In DP prefs under Automatic Conversions, there is an option called 'Convert to sequence tempo'. The middle radio button heading is 'Whenever File Tempo Doesn't Match The Sequence Tempo'. I would have thought that meant that if that button was selected, then if drag an audio loop into the tracks window, DP will automatically adjust it to fit the sequence tempo. Is that what it means? Because when I tried dragging in a different tempo audio loop, nothing happened. Not a sausage. Am I missing the bleeding obvious here? I hope that it can actually do that automatic conversion, because I'll be using it all the time.

I'll just hang here and be ready to scrape the egg off my face :)

Cheers,

Geoff

1.Under "restart automatically after a power failure"
there should be Processor performance at the bottom
with a drop down menu giving you highest, reduced, and automatic
as choices.
That's if you're running a G5, (I'm not sure about G4's)
2.
I always have "when bite is added to a track" checked off.
DP then always appears to convert to whatever tempo I have in my session.
Also, when dragging a file into the soundbites window, and background analysis checked (Analyze sound files for DSP as soon as possible)
that will give DP a chance to look at the tempo of the file.
Then if you drop onto the timeline, Dp should be able to make tempo
adjustments (if you have Whenever file tempo doesn't match sequence tempo checked off)
Course..I've been wrong before.

Thanks heaps for that. I'll get on the case as soon as I get back to the studio.

To add to the confusion --

Powerbook energy settings are also slighly different...
but I guess you knew that already since you could run
them for a while without A/C...

as described, it looks pretty much the same on my g4 powerbook :)
i think we just get an additional pulldown up on top:

Settings For: a) power adapter, and b) battery.

i think in the pulldown at the bottom, there are 3 levels: highest, automatic, and lowest.
