Seagate .8s are great, and very, very quiet. BTW, their new .9s don't work in the latest G5s without modified settings. Check to se if the .8s are available in ATA (they are in SATA).

I've used Maxtor without any probs at all in a G4. Using a Seagate SATA now just because the box said it is the "quietest drive in the world". :) I would just stay away from any no name cheapies and you should be fine.

So far, no probs w/ my Western Digital SATA. I did have a Maxtor go bad and I lost everything which wasn't backed up. I guess that can happen w/ any brand tho.

I've had a Maxtor internal go bad, and have a friend who Maxtor external went down... I've had good luck with the Seagate drives, as long as you don't go with the budget one. I've heard excellent things about Hitachi as well.

FYI, Seagate announced back in September that it's acquiring Maxtor . While this doesn't affect products currently on the shelf, it'll probably start to have an impact over the next couple years (though, what kind of impact remains to be seen).

Here's an interview with Seagate's CEO.
