Any way to modify fader scale/resolution?
Say I'm dealing with some really loud virtual instruments that I want to automate. I've got one now that is already fairly loud at -22dBFS, so when I automate it, I'm in this window of infinity to -25dBFS or so, which of course is miniscule. Is there some way to change the fader scale so I can have a wider stretch to drag between dead quiet and -25dBFS?

I think it's the shift key or option key; I forget which, enables you to move the fader at decimal-point range.

Aha! I don't know why I didn't think of it. It's the command key. Thanks! I was asking more about visually scaling it, but this works too.

How about inserting a Trim plug, so your fader starts in a different position?

You could also lower the bite gain (or bite volume) and achieve the same thing. There is usually more than way to accomplish something in DP!Phil O wrote:How about inserting a Trim plug, so your fader starts in a different position?

It appears bite gain/volume is for soundbites. This is an instrument track, so maybe Trim is the better route. The Cmd-drag works on the fader, but it moves almost too slowly to automate the way I want.

You're right. I was thinking about how I use it- in a different situation. Trim is what you want.MDesigner wrote:It appears bite gain/volume is for soundbites. This is an instrument track, so maybe Trim is the better rout

I don't suppose your VI has a master volume knob in there somewhere? Seems like most of mine do.
You could drop the volume within the VI's GUI, then scale back up your automation. (Or am I missing something?)

Re: Any way to modify fader scale/resolution?
Yeah, I did think of that, but it would make those few patches way quieter than the rest of the factory presets.. so if I switch between them, I'm likely to blow my ears off.
(volume is per-preset, not global on the VI)
Another option I could go with is to slap a Trim plugin on the track, drop the gain there to a comfortable level (with the fader at 0dBFS), and then I could use the fader which is slightly more accessible than the Trim plugin.
