DP 7 Hangs On Startup - RESOLVED

Well, this is disturbing...

Today when I went to start DP it now hangs on the splash screen. If I wait long enough it finally gives me an error message "Unknown Error" and when I hit Ok it just remains hung.

I've repaired permissions, trashed DP pref's, restored DP from Time Machine, reinstalled the 7.24 update, then finally reinstalled from the DP 7 DVD.

Ideas, anyone? I do have a tech link into Motu.

The Motu tech told me to pull the MIDI drivers and try again, but there was no difference.

EDIT: No change.

The MOTU tech also had me try starting with shift down to load MIDI only. No dice.

I was able to start Pro Tools 11 so no issues with MIDI / audio drivers there.

Have you tried deleting the authorization file and re-authorizing. There's a thread here somewhere that tells you how to find that little bugger. I had to do that once and I vaguely recall the symptom being some sort of hang.

Game over. Looks like all but one USB port on my Mac Pro have gone out. I unplugged everything and DP booted up...now am troubleshooting another issue.

I had the built in USB ports go out 2weeks ago. Disconnecting all USB and zapping PRAM fixed it.

Dang! That's bad news, Chris. Do you have a backup computer?

There are inexpensive PCIe cards that will add another usb bus to your Mac Pro. I would use that as an opportunity to add usb 3.
