Am I correct that we don't have a solution for switching between DP7 and DP8-- WRT LAME export?

Is it that we would need to be able to dynamically switch between the DP7 LAME export bundle and DP8's version?

Would an Automator workflow to swap out those files on the fly work?

I.e. First move the DP7 LAME files into place then launch DP7
and similarly for DP8?

I won't bother with that unless I have to. I'm doing pretty good in DP8 at 32 bit. A couple of small annoyances but not as bad as DP6 and workable.

Look in this directory:

<Your Hard Drive Name>/Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/MOTU Audio Export/

You should have three files in that directory:

Core Audio Export.bundle
LAME Audio Export.bundle
libmp3lame.dylib

Right now you probably only have the first two. I'm posting an archive of libmp3lame.dylib here that you can unarchive and drop into that directory and it should work.

http://motunation.com/files/libmp3lame.dylib.zip

If you don't have the other files let me know, but the DP8 installer should put them there I think.
Thanks for all the help here, James. I'm still on 7.24 but have never figured out the LAME install. After bouncing to a project to disk yesterday and discovering the LAME option in the pull down, I tried it but no dice. I just copied the above libmp3lame.dylib to the MOTU Audio Export folder but still had no success. Then I tried copying the all the 398.4 files to that folder. Still no luck- now I'm thinking that version- and method of installing- is for DP8 only.

So.... just to get a LAME version functioning in 7.24 and in the interest of science, how do I go about installing LAME for 7.24? I have downloaded the LAME Framework 397 but with the myriad of folders and versions have no idea what goes where.

Plus it might be handy with all the back and forth people are doing between DP versions to have the 7 and 8 install directions in one thread. Thanks!

Yes... I'm sorry about that. I put "For DP8:" at the top of my post. It is for DP8 only. MOTU changed how they do MP3 export in DP8. They use the ".dylib" file now, and no longer use the ".framework" which was the form of LAME needed for DP 7.24 and earlier. I haven't had time to investigate if I've lost my ability to export MP3 in DP7 yet. If I haven't, I'll try to post my framework file and instructions where to put it. I can't see why DP8 and DP7 shouldn't both be able to export MP3 files. :(

Thanks James! Looking forward to figuring out how to install LAME for DP7. I've just always used iTunes but it's an extra step or two. Upon discovering the LAME option in the Bounce Menu, it suddenly hit me how convenient it COULD be.

You'd think LAME -or DP- would have a 'ReadMe' file or something.....

Yes, not having to export from another app is a huge time saver! One that I sorely miss after installing 8.

As a reminder of what I posted earlier, MOTU tech support said you need to trash 8 and reinstall 7 to get back all the export functions working again in 7. However, just because they hadn't found a way yet to have both installed, doesn't mean there isn't one. If its possible to get LAME working in 7 (after installing DP8), maybe there's a way to get back the other export options too.

Hey, mystery solved, thanks to Cody's post from yesterday.

The LAME framework folder you get when you download LAME just goes into the HD/Library/Frameworks folder. The MOTU components are already in the MOTU Audio Export folder in the Library/Audio/Plugins folder. The framework is the missing piece you need to load yourself.

Now I can export mp3s directly from DP- cool!

Understand that I haven't installed DP8 yet, so I don't know what gets changed in 7 when you install 8. But I had tried to get LAME working on a couple occasions and always left scratching my head.

Thanks to all, especially Cody!

Slightly OT for this thread, but soon you will see what a PIA it is for those of us accustom to being able to export audio from DP. If you want to keep this feature you should (for the time being anyway) NOT install DP8. …i am glad you got it working though! :)

Is it working in 7 after installing 8, 2leftears?!

I ran into a DP8 export issue today. I've been testing with 2 different projects: one, built from scratching DP8 and another a recent DP 7.24 project Opened, not loaded, in DP8. In the Opened DP7.24 project, I selected a stereo mixed track and tried to BTD to any format and it failed, actually shutting down MAS. I went to the Soundbites window and exported from there and all formats exported without error. I was even able to export using right click menus without problems. Then I brought the same file into the "new" DP8 test project and BTD worked without error. I then Loaded the Chunk I described above from the opened DP7.24 project into the "new" DP8 file and BTD also worked correctly. Again I'm testing BTD with only a single stereo audio file. There's a lot more testing to do on this, obviously, but I thought I'd report. I'm starting to wonder if there are issues with opening 7 projects in 8;

This thread is confusing me. Are all these people thanking James exporting mp3s from 7 after they installed 8, as the Subject Line indicates?

No. My instructions were for DP8. I'll try to see if I can figure out the Dp7 problem later.

I can open all my DP7 projects in DP8 without issues (at least everything I've opened so far... and I'm running in 32 bit mode... which is a UAD based issue, not DP)). Following the instructions for correcting the MP3 issue in 8 worked great... DP7... no MP3 option... I can't get past selecting a folder for the bounce... but.... as of right now... I can't find a reason for having to open in DP7

that could change

my biggest challenge has been finding some of the functions that have moved
