Back to DP7 from DP8 and no MP3 Export
Anybody else experiencing this? Not even an option to export....I know they use different LAME libs (I think, at least) but there's no MP3 option in the pull down now!

Yep, seen that as well. Haven't gone back to DP7 to work, but in testing it for errors after installing DP8, the MP3 LAME framework is gone.
You might try reinstalling it from your earlier LAME installer if you have it. If not, I probably have one here I can send you. You can probably find it on the internet as well.

Re: Back to DP7 from DP8 and no MP3 Export
I've played with the various versions of LAME....but I think the problem is that DP isn't even seeing an option of exporting to MP3 - it's not even to the point of searching for LAME. Is it possible that the "LAME Audio Export.bundle" in the MOTU Audio Export for DP7 got overwritten with the DP8 install?

Re: Back to DP7 from DP8 and no MP3 Export
Thanks...
But to clarify the LAME Framework wasn't the problem in my case - it was the MOTU's LAME Audio Export Plugin that draws upon the LAME framework. (Plugins/MOTU Audio Export)
Not sure if that's what you meant. But hope anybody else experiencing this knows how to fix it now!

Re: Back to DP7 from DP8 and no MP3 Export
The frustration grows.
I tried reinstalling LAME and I still can't export as mp3 from DP7 or 8. Can someone please tell me the exact procedure? The "Get L.A.M.E." dialogue that comes up in DP has a specific place that it should be installed, but the installers that I've found do not give you an option as to where LAME is installed.
Thanks again

Re: Back to DP7 from DP8 and no MP3 Export
As far as I can tell there are two components that go into the DP7 or DP8 Mp3 Export:
• The MOTU installed "LAME Audio Export" - which is not the framework - I gather it's the "bridge" from DP to the actual framework. It goes in Library/~/Plug-Ins/MOTU Audio Export. BUT, the versions are not compatible (at least DP8 doesn't work for DP7.) The way I got my DP7 working again was to go into Time Machine and restore the DP7 version.
• The LAME Framework - this goes in Library/Frameworks for DP7 and (I think?) in MOTU Audio Export folder for DP8. I'm not an expert on this, but for DP8 I think there's a recent thread.

thanks cody!
[posting this info on all the Back-to-7 threads I'm subscribed to]
Just spoke to MOTU tech support. They say to go back to 7, you need to trash 8 and reinstall 7 from the install disk (and then update to 7.24). In other words you can not have both 7 and 8 on the same drive if you want the export options etc. in 7. …seems drastic to me, but that's what they said.

Re: Back to DP7 from DP8 and no MP3 Export
And I think that's true, unless you go under the hood and replace that Audio Export plugin via Time Machine or a backup, etc. Working for me so far! QT Export is fine too!
I haven't deleted DP8, but I have zipped it so docs don't try to open it. Also, the DP8 plugins work in DP7 seem more efficient!

Re: Back to DP7 from DP8 and no MP3 Export
i just ran into this with DP8 too -- with the difference that my pulldown did offer LAME as a choice.
however when i chose it, i then got an alert that i would need to install LAME 3.99 or above.
i've acquired it a folder-full of LAME 3.99 now but i'm stuck on the install. i don't know what to do to install it to /library/audio/plug-ins/MOTU Audio Export. simply copying the new LAME folder into that location doesn't work, i reckon there must be some install routine that needs to run.
the 3.99 folder is full of various files and subfolders and i'm not really sure where i go from here.
if one of you could help me out i'd really appreciate it.
best

You need the packaged framework, not the source. Pretty sure there's another thread here with that handy. If I had the link handy I'd tell ya!

Re: Back to DP7 from DP8 and no MP3 Export
For DP8:
Look in this directory:
<Your Hard Drive Name>/Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/MOTU Audio Export/
You should have three files in that directory:
Core Audio Export.bundle
LAME Audio Export.bundle
libmp3lame.dylib
Right now you probably only have the first two. I'm posting an archive of libmp3lame.dylib here that you can unarchive and drop into that directory and it should work.
http://motunation.com/files/libmp3lame.dylib.zip
If you don't have the other files let me know, but the DP8 installer should put them there I think.
