Re: Ordered the 6 Core 3,33 GHz
Should have gotten the new Mac Pro last week, May 12.
Unfortunately there is a delay. Well, I´m not surprised as this tends to be the tradition when really wanting the stuff right away..
So today they say the delivery will be tomorrow.
Fingers crossed!

Re: Ordered the 6 Core 3,33 GHz
Hahaha you guys are everywhere
I got it yesterday, Yeah!!! As happy as can be!
Though, all is still in the box that won´t be opened until I´m done mixing the project I´m working on right now.
Thing is, once you open the Mac box......
I probably would need apologizing to my client for the heavy delay of their CD.. so I´m really trying to show some discipline here!!!!
First: Complete the mix of the Jazz record on the Mac PPC G5.
Second: Celebrate with the new Mac Pro.

Congratulations RG!
I think you will love the upgrade.
I am almost finished setting up a 2008 2.8 Macro I snagged a few weeks ago.So far the new MAC seems like a major leap forward from PPC G5's.You will certainly notice even more of an improvement!

Re: Ordered the 6 Core 3,33 GHz
I'll pipe in here. My experience with this 6-core compared to my Dual 2 GHz G5? Words cannot express. I haven't pushed it so I have absolutely no idea what this machine is capable of. I will say I built it mainly for the Spectrasonics VI's which are CPU-hungry, especially Omnisphere and Trilian (2 GB basses). Can you say smooth, fluid, no spikes, quiet, much less heat than my G5. Oh, and FAST? The computer is now not an obstacle or something that has to be "managed". Back to the music.
Over and out.
RG, start with champagne and then go with coffee. It'll take awhile to set it up. Please don't use Migration Assistant. Start from scratch and clean-install everything. You can drag some pref files but I would rebuild them. I'm sure you know how to import mail and contacts and stuff. Because it's Power PC to Intel, I would not drag over baggage and old gunk. Clean start. OK, I'm done. (As you know I just did this in January and I'm getting great results. Just my, uh, 90¢.)

Re: Ordered the 6 Core 3,33 GHz
Thanks Hammerman. Very ecouraging
I´ll defenitely start from scratch. I have no emails etc on my Mac. For that I´m using a PC. Mac is music only (!) for me.
From the G5 I´ll only export the DP project files.
Hope to find enough time soon

Re: Ordered the 6 Core 3,33 GHz
Opened the box (!!!!) to see all was there!
I installed RAM, hard drives and the MOTU PCI 424 card. Didn´t turn it on.. yet
My question is, I remember the need setting jumpers on the second internal disk.
Master/slave. Is this still necessary on the new Mac Pro? And how should HD 2,3 and 4 be "jumped". Thing is the jumpers are not included with the hard drives anymore..
Thanks

Re: Ordered the 6 Core 3,33 GHz
Congrats RG! When I installed the other three drives in my system, I did not mess with any jumper settings. I just attached them to the sleds and slid them in. Simple. As it should be! I added a WD Black Caviar, a WD Velociraptor, and a WD Green Caviar backup drive.

Re: Ordered the 6 Core 3,33 GHz
I love WD drives. Yeah, got the 600 GB Velociraptor for VI's and stuff, the 1 TB Black Caviar for projects, and the 2 TB Green Caviar for Time Machine backups of the project drive only, not the boot drive or VI drive. I'm also doing something different where I am allowing Energy Saver to spin down the drives after a certain amount of inactivity. The only minor gotcha is to make sure the Project drive wakes up before I start recording as there is a little time lag. It doesn't happen too often, it saves wear and tear and heat from the drives, and saves energy and money. Worth it IMHO.
