I know that perhaps many of you don't find such a poll is of any real use and I usually agree with that but then I thought I should vote anyway and so I did

First of all, you help make the point that polls conducted on forums can be quite inaccurate. In the case of Digital Performer users, those of them that aren't busy working, may likely use their free time to visit forums that are more focused on what is of most interest to them-- Digital Performer. They'll visit other forums less frequently, and hence they don't often learn about these polls and are often UNDER-represented in the results.joeq wrote: Not to mention all the user forums telling all their hardcore fanboys to "go over to Gearslutz, register and vote"
Some people see numbers and assume that it indicates usage in the audio community "at large" when it fact it indicates usage amongst a certain group-- for example, people who come to GearSlutz frequently. And that may or may not be a good representative sample, but again, when users of a particular DAW have a defacto online "home" that is focused on their needs, they miss polls on other sites sometimes.
Perhaps you could suggest other methodology or limiting the poll to only GearSlutz members with high post counts or have belonged to the forum for a minimum length of time in order to limit voting to the GearSlutz members you feel should have a right to vote and exclude those you do not?
