Another ...DAW Poll

Post by sonus »

For those who might be interested there is a new active DAW poll in Gearslutz herehttp://www.gearslutz.com/board/music-co ... -poll.html.
I know that perhaps many of you don't find such a poll is of any real use and I usually agree with that but then I thought I should vote anyway and so I did :)

cheers

Voted! I may move the AMPGUIMODS.NET banner ad for a while and put up an ad for this poll. We need to "get out the vote" and "represent" for DP. We're at 27 right now. I can wait to hear them crying foul over there when someone invariably mentions that we got a voter drive going. Still, I don't frequent GS much.

You do need to log-in at GearSlutz to vote, BTW.

Behold! New banner to the left of Sweewater's banner today! LET'S GET OUT THE VOTE! Spread the word to your Digital Performer using friends via personal email if necessary. We're at 30 already from 27 when I last posted. :)

Ha... it's too funny. Complaints already about "hardcore fanboys" who get out the vote and grousing about the DP users from one guy there. I guess we're supposed to sit at the back of the bus and shut up... know our place.

Here's an exchange:

Geez, joeq. Seems like you have a problem with people spreading the word about polls like this. First of all, you help make the point that polls conducted on forums can be quite inaccurate. In the case of Digital Performer users, those of them that aren't busy working, may likely use their free time to visit forums that are more focused on what is of most interest to them-- Digital Performer. They'll visit other forums less frequently, and hence they don't often learn about these polls and are often UNDER-represented in the results.

Some people see numbers and assume that it indicates usage in the audio community "at large" when it fact it indicates usage amongst a certain group-- for example, people who come to GearSlutz frequently. And that may or may not be a good representative sample, but again, when users of a particular DAW have a defacto online "home" that is focused on their needs, they miss polls on other sites sometimes.

Perhaps you could suggest other methodology or limiting the poll to only GearSlutz members with high post counts or have belonged to the forum for a minimum length of time in order to limit voting to the GearSlutz members you feel should have a right to vote and exclude those you do not?

Wow... someone's upset about "mobilizing" votes and that 7 votes came in for DP in the last hour. So what? I tried to explain not all of us come to GearSlutz every day. I did not mention this forum by name, but considering that this is pretty much an enclave for Digital Performer users and many of us are busy and can't go to a bunch of audio sites each day (I have to run this place... that's another factor) that there's no harm in spreading the word. Oh well... :unicorn:

That's cool. You know, many of us belong to GS but don't go there because this forum covers most of what we need to do. There are certain people here that work day to day, professionally with DP-- many TV and movie guys. Some of the resumes here are quite impressive. Yet there's one guy over there, joeq, that's really put out about DP users who don't have time to read GS every day, in addition to this site, passing the word.

I've asked him, that if a DP user belongs to GS and has before the poll, just why should it disqualify them from voting because they didn't learn about the poll by going to GS every damned day? Really? And the smears go on. Rather than answer, out of the blue he says why not make multiple accounts, have relatives vote and all sorts of ridiculous smear tactics. Just the mention of those things are supposed to then taint DP users because we dared vote.

Yeah, I got an idea why DP doesn't always place high at GearSlutz. Maybe it's because many of us aren't spending all freakin' day spouting off on that forum and working. :banghead: :banghead:
